  • Family-run campsite deep in Charente countryside near Confolens
  • A 20-minute drive to La Colline Enchantée and 45 minutes to Limoges
  • Swimming pool, fishing, shop, restaurant and woodland walks on site
A very warm welcome extends to all comers at Moulin Du Pommier Glamping and Camping, a family-run – and family-friendly – campsite set in more than eight hectares of gorgeous, out-of-the-way Charente countryside five minutes’ drive from the sleepy village of Saulgond. In fact it’s so peaceful here that you’ll probably never want to leave. There are hikes and cycle rides aplenty round these parts (walking maps are available from the owners), as well as legions of historic towns waiting to be explored, but otherwise there’s no real reason ever to set foot off this secluded little haven. And why would you, when you can laze away your days around the swimming pool, or set the kids up with a rod and line to catch fish in the private lake? And that’s before you’ve found the waterfall, walked around the lake and followed all the woodland trails about the place. All your catering needs are sorted, what with the on-site restaurant offering tip-top homemade food and weekly pizza nights. Going down the self-catering route? You’re covered there too, with all the basics available from the on-site shop. In case you need a bigger stock up, the nearest supermarkets are found in Confolens (15 minutes’ drive).

Sunny Side 3 bedroom cottage / chalet / bungalow

Liked: Superb place to stay.Lovely friendly family who go far and beyond to please. Even though there are others around you feel like you have the place to yourself. We have 2 children ages 9 and 12 and they were more than happy and had plenty to do. The food is fantastic, freshly made and cooked.Nothing is too much trouble and even catered for a Gluten free member of the family. Whichever pitch/chalet/lodge you choose you are surrounded by great views. Plenty of small villages/towns/lakes to explore from 10 mins to an hour and beyond. The bar and swimming pool are a great place to hang out,you could spend hours/days just sitting around if that was your thing. Everything is of great quality and you will be catered for your every need. Thank you so much for the memories, hope to be back next year and all the best for your future.

Disliked: Going home!

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: What a little gem, we're so glad we found this site. If you love space, peace and good amenities this site is just perfect. The site is split into different areas giving eveyone space and privacy. The facilities for such a small intimate site are great. There's a lovely swimming pool where you can lounge and just relax. The games room and bar area is a great place to sit and chat over a glass of wine and enjoy a scrummy pizza, burger or chicken nuggets which were all made freshly on the premises. There's a little shop at reception for drinks, icecreams, BBQ stuff and other bits and bobs you may need or have forgotten. The best campsite we've been to for a long time and one of the biggest reasons this campsite stands out from other campsites is the family who run it; they are so helpful and accommodating. The plans for the site and the work they have already done in such a short space of time is a credit to their enthusiasm and genuine interest in their customers. We look forward to returning and would happily recommed.

Disliked: We only stayed two nights :(

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Lake View 2 bedroom cottage / chalet / bungalow

Liked: Olga is a wonderful host and very helpful. We stayed for a week and she was always around. View from the pitch was absolutely stunning. Swimming pool right by our tent. Camping site has all necessary facilities. Location is great, shopping centre just few min drive.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: Moulin Du Pommier Is located in beautiful rural France. Surrounded by quaint villages and farmland. The site is located in a lovely sheltered spot. The pitches are all fairly level and well maintained. There are two good toilet blocks on site which are well maintained. There are also disabled facilities. Central to the site is the restaurant area where you can enjoy some of the best homemade pizza and burgers you’re likely to ever try. The is also a great pool area to relax in. The site is lovely, but what makes this site amazing are the owners Simon and Andrea from the moment we arrived they made us feel so welcome and were amazing hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and they had solutions for problems we didn’t even realise we had! This was quite possibly the best weeks camping we’ve ever had!!

Disliked: Having to leave

Local attractions

After spending a few days in blissful seclusion around the pool, you may feel the pull of town life. Lovely Confolens (15 minutes’ drive) fits the bill perfectly for riverside strolls, while buzzy Limoges (45 minutes) is ideal for a day trip en famille, with cathedrals, museums and hilly medieval streets to poke around, and plenty of alfresco cafés for leisurely lunches. Suggestions for days out with an historic theme include the standing stones at Menhir de Ceinturat (20 minutes) and a visit to the sombre village of Oradour-sur-Glane (half an hour), deserted after a Nazi atrocity in World War II. As befits any holiday in France, there are stately châteaux to visit too, such as the Castle of Saint-Germain-de-Confolens (20 minutes), Château de Rochebrune (10 kilometres) and Château de Peyras (half an hour). If the kids object to so much culture, treat them to cuddly ponies and baby kangaroos at La Colline Enchantée animal park (20 minutes), or get back into their good books by messing about in boats on the reservoir at Pressignac (25 minutes).
