  • Family-friendly site in the Durance valley
  • Free shuttle bus into nearby Manosque
  • Pool, football pitch, bouncy castle, playground and summer snack bar
If you're holidaying around the colourful Provence, at some point you should make your way to the Haute-Provence's biggest town of Manosque, in the Luberon Natural Regional Park among hills and gorges, and with award-winning gardens, a medieval Old Town and easy access to the spectacular lavender fields of the Valensole Plateau. And for easy access to Manosque? Bed down at the peaceful family site of Camping Provence Vallée, where the cheerful and friendly team sort a free shuttle bus straight to the centre of town. It's just one of the excellent additional touches here laid on by Charlène, Clément, Adrien et al on the Camping Provence Vallée team, to help ensure you, the kids and anyone else on holiday here has a tiptop and fully fun time. Camping Provence Vallée is in the Durance valley between the Luberon and the Verdon gorges (both nearby; both fab). Its scenic setting is crammed with stuff to do for all ages: you could get active at the football pitch, ping pong tables or boules pitch, or have serene hours sunbathing in the big space beside the roomy summer pool. There's a bouncy castle for bouncy kids, and a nicely-sized playground for smalls to bounce around at afterwards. If you're dithering about what to do and if you're staying in summer, check out the busy activities and entertainment programme that runs in July and August, where you can get stuck into a vast range of events such as magic nights, aqua aerobics, karaoke, quizzes, discos and music evenings six days a week. A kids' club runs during summer as well. Barbecue areas and picnic spots are around the site for outdoor eats in this pretty Provence setting. Or you could decide to fully laze while on hol here and let the snack bar do all the cooking, for lengthy dinners after an aperitif on the terrace of the summer bar.

Local attractions

Camping Provence Vallée is on countryside heights above Manosque, with views of the southern Alps and the Mont d’Or of the Jura range, between mountains and sea, and an hour's drive from the Mediterranean sea. Ski resorts are within easy reach. Take the shuttle bus into Manosque for a lengthy day of sightseeing around its Old Town, 14th-century fortified gates the Porte de la Saunerie and the Porte du Soubeyran, the pretty Place Marcel-Pagnol, and, in the hills north of the town, the gardens of the Maison de la Biodiversité. Manosque is the biggest town in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, so has a lively vibe and loads of shops, restaurants and bars to keep you busy too. About 25 minutes' east from Manosque are the vast lavender fields of the Valensole Plateau, edged by the medieval streets and centre of Valensole town, just to the north of the Verdon Natural Regional Park. Other day trips very much worth doing from the site are the handsome town of Esparron-de-Verdon, with 10th-century castle and setting on the edge of the lower Verdon gorges (50 minutes); the high-up town of Lurs, and the former department capital of Forcalquier, both within 30 minutes' drive.
