It's only about 10 minutes to glitzy Cannes from Camping Plateau des Chasses, so how glitteringly fitting that arty activities and evening films are among the wide(screen?) range of options on site for guests of all ages. A full programme of free artistic workshops – with activities including sculpture, painting, linocut and theatre – runs throughout the spring and summer months, while evening entertainment comes in the form of outdoor films or concerts showcasing music of all sorts. No need for drama either if you have differing ages of offspring along with you, as the two playgrounds here include a standard one for younger kids, and another with basketball hoops, football cage and rope swings for older kids and teens. An outdoor pool, table tennis and pétanque court are also around for guests (if they have time), along with a mini farm where minis can meet and greet the site menagerie. And when it's time to sink back and sample some cuisine, a restaurant and lounge bar await…

Local attractions

Although it's so close to Cannes, Camping Plateau des Chasses has a stellar amount to see and do around its coast and countryside too. (Although do make for Cannes as soon as poss, to see its beaches and swish harbour, take a boat to the nature reserve of Sainte-Marguerite island less than a kilometre offshore… or just to roam stalkingly around town beadily eyeing all you meet in case they might be A Celeb.) The closest town to the site is Mandelieu, where there are heaps of hikes, two top golf courses, tennis courts, and access to parasailing, jetskiing, waterskiing, sailing and diving. Also around are Vallauris (12 kilometres), once home to Picasso and now with ceramists, potters and crystalmakers galore; perfume town Grasse (13 kilometres) and the glass blowing studios of Gourdon (15 kilometres). The aquarium, kids' fun park, waterpark and adventure golf of Marineland in Antibes is 25 kilometres away.
