Under the branches of a pine forest, and about five minutes’ drive from the Côte d’Azur, this sprawling French Riviera site – five minutes from Carqueiranne and Le Pradet – is a must for busy hols in the south of France. Guests at Camping Le Beau Vezé may gravitate immediately towards the myriad sandy stretches on the Garonne Bay, where splashing about in the Med, lazing on the sands or strolling along coastal paths should see days passing in bliss, but don’t be in a hurry to leave the site behind. Sand-free swims are handily had on site, where a large outdoor pool complex – with large pools, paddling pools and slides – will easily entertain. That’s not all guests can do to fill days either: daily activities and a kids’ club should keep younger visitors busy during high season, and the whole family can get competitive in pétanque, ping pong, volleyball, football and miniature golf. The site also sets a rural scene, with facilities dotted around the forest, and olive trees and an old oil mill giving everything an air of authenticity. An on-site playground is overlooked by the terrace outside the bar-restaurant, so grownups can keep an eye on proceedings with a cool drink or an ice cream in hand. Larger meals can be sorted here too, with a range of traditional eats, pizzas and daily specials available to eat in or take away. A small grocery store sells essentials and parcels out the day’s delivery of fresh bread and pastries, so if self-catering (perhaps with the aid of an electric or gas barbecue) sounds like the right fit, that’s a cinch here too.

Liked: Ein schöner familienfreundlicher Campingplatz unter einem Kiefernwald. Das Restaurant sieht toll aus und auch ein Pool ist dabei. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Disliked: Es gab oft einen Engpass an Toilettenpapier und das WLAN ist recht teuer. Bis 22 Uhr sind die Zikaden sehr laut.

Local attractions

Beaches close at hand are a top choice for swims, sunbathing and strolls, but the 10-minute drive to nearby Almanarre beach is worth the extra distance for its share of watersports, including kitesurfing and windsurfing. Further-flung adventures can start on the long-distance Parcours Cyclable du Littoral, which guests can embark on less than a kilometre from site. The 92-kilometre coastal cycle route joins Toulon with the resort town of Saint-Tropez (an hour’s drive). It’s 15 minutes from base to the city centre of Hyères, where guests can stroll about botanical gardens, explore archaeological sites, try luck at the casino and get adrenaline pumping on the rides at Magic World. Toulon is 20 minutes away, and a must-visit for its scenic cable car, maritime museum, opera house and arts spaces. Journeys out to the island of Porquerolles (about 55 minutes away, including a 30-minute ferry ride) come highly recommended, and the site team will help guests to organise day trips and bike hire if required.
