Looking for a friendly, flower-filled place for rural relaxing on your Isère hol? What you need is a quiet corner – or un coin tranquille if you’re savvy with the local lingo. So hurrah to Camping Le Coin Tranquille, on the edge of the Savoie region between Lyon and Chambéry, where owners Gilles and Martine (and famille) work hard to run a splendid site. Grownups are practically guaranteed a peaceful time here, while the smalls are off at the kids' club for sessions of crafts, games and sporting activities, or while they're bouncing around the inflatable castle or one of the site playgrounds. Meanwhile, you can mosey over to the heated pool for a dip or stretch out on a lounger for some quality time with a book. Once reunited, take the family to the restaurant’s airy covered terrace for regional dishes, pizza, pasta or lighter bites from the kids’ menu, or for one of the theme nights held weekly in high season. Outside of meal times, stroll back over here for a cocktail or ice cream on one of the outdoor sofas. Start your acquaintance with the local area by settling down in the TV room to watch the site’s weekly video presentation, and then head for the hills with confidence by signing up for the guided hike running weekly in high season. Local attractions

Head to Lac d’Aiguebelette half an hour away, for beaches, supervised swimming and watersports including paddleboarding, canoeing and pedalos. There’s a fab adventure park over here too – Accro’Lac has treetop adventure courses and also offers canyoning trips into the surrounding mountains. Another lake that’s worth a trip is Lac de Paladru, 20 minutes’ drive from the site – not only a lovely place for a wander but also a rich source of aquatic archaeological finds, many of which you can see displayed in a museum in Charavines at the lake’s southern end. Nearby is the Château de Virieu, a medieval building that was extended many times up to the 18th century. For a family day out, the Walibi Rhône-Alpes theme park is about 20 minutes away by car. Also worth a visit is the Domaine des Fauves zoo five minutes from the site, where you can see a collection of wild cats large and small.
