Woot, just look at that beach. And the Camping Drepanos pitches, right by it and overlooking the ocean. And the sea views from all around, and the spectacular sunsets over the clear emerald waters of the Ionian archipelago … and all in a locale only five kilometres from the famed old port city of Igoumenitsa. These fine things are at this fine Thesprotia site, in the Epirus region on Greece's north-west, facing the fine sands of spectacular Drepanos beach. You'll very likely want to lounge around on the beach for weeks on end (sunbeds and parasols are provided for free), but it's easy to get to destinations galore from Igoumenitsa, where you can catch connections to other parts of Greece as well as to Italy and Albania. A stay here will also have you within an hour's drive from the island hopping options available at the coastal village of Sivota, or the watersports activities at the historic citadel of Parga. Set across 32 acres, the Camping Drepranos pitches are grassy and shaded by tall eucalyptus trees. If you ever do manage to peel yourself off the beach, bike hire, tennis, a TV room, playground and evening entertainment will keep all ages occupied. A terrace restaurant, beach bar, snack bar, creperie, barbecue area and mini market are also on site so you can be fed and watered in between beach, sightseeing and site days. A communal kitchen with washing-up area, a fridge freezer and a dishwasher is available for guests' use; outdoors, barbecues are allowed. If you need any info or help while you're on site, toddle along to the reception desk, which is open 24 hours a day.

Local attractions

It's less than 15 minutes' drive from here to the busy port city of Igoumenitsa, for ferries to Corfu and Paxous in Greece; Avlona in Albania; and Brindisi, Bari, Ancona, Venice and Trieste in Italy. For a peaceful and scenic day trip, drive to the long sheltered beaches and secret coves of Sivota (31 kilometres), or rent a boat to get out to the green islands and islets scattered around its coastline, such as Mavro Oros, Agios Nikolaos and Mourtemeno. Within 50 kilometres, you should also make time for a stroll around the cobblestone streets and arches of Parga's colourful Old Town, with its Venetian castle and walls, or hit the waterfront's restaurants, bars and souvenir shops. Parga also has several beaches, such as Krioneri, Piso-Krioneri, Valtos, Lychnos, Agios Giannakis and Sarakiniko, where you can explore sea caves, go island hopping and try out watersports such as sailing, swimming, diving, waterskiing and windsurfing. Further afield, go hiking and wildlife spotting in Pindus National Park or Valia-Kalda, a beaut land covered by dense forests of European black pine and common beech, rocky ridges, mountain streams and freshwater lakes – and inhabited by around 350 brown bears.
