  • Peaceful parkland site 10 minutes' walk from the banks of the Danube
  • 20 minutes from Budapest city centre by public transport
  • Restaurant on site, plus 24-hour reception for maps and advice
Well now, this is quite a spot – 10 minutes’ walk from the banks of the Danube, a short trot from tram stops and a mere half-hour saunter from the city centre. Throw in the peaceful park setting and its possible you’ll have all the ideal elements for a brill Budapest city break (and at something of a bargain price to boot). Camping Haller’s fab location in the Ferencváros area means you’ll have easy access to all the capital’s attractions (museums, historic buildings, thermal baths, bars, restaurants, clubs…) at all hours of the day or night, whether you’re gadding about on public transport or prefer to roam under your own steam. Reception’s open 24 hours a day, so there’s always some friendly folk on hand to offer advice, maps and transport info, or help you get your bearings by booking a bus or boat tour. There’s a plentiful supply of top-notch restaurants in the city centre, but if you’re out of energy after a day of city stomping (or just fancy a chilled-out evening), you’ll be chuffed to hear there are options closer to home. The site’s got its own little restaurant serving up homely Hungarian fare, or you’re welcome to get the barbie grill going (having sourced supplies from the supermarket 10 minutes’ walk away).

Local attractions

Where to start? Budapest is frankly crammed with attractions, with plenty to keep you occupied for many days on end. First-timers may like to get a grip on it all on a bus tour or see some of the sights from a boat trip down the Danube – both are bookable at reception. Once you’ve got your bearings it’s worth taking a closer look at some of the finest buildings, including Buda Castle, the Parliament Building and St Stephen’s Basilica, and taking a stroll down UNESCO-recognised Andrássy Avenue. Take a look into the city's past at the Holocaust Memorial Centre and House of Terror, or keep things lighter at the chocolate museum and pinball museum. For a spot of post-ramble relaxation, take to the famed waters of Széchenyi Spa or Gellert Spa and Baths. Though the city’s attractions are numerous, you may well also wish to use Camping Haller as a base for out-of-town day trips: perhaps to the scenic citadel in Visegrád or for some fresh air on the shores of Lake Balaton (one of Europe’s largest lakes). Both are about an hour away by car.
