  • Spacious park five minutes' walk from the beach in Cropani Marina
  • Organised excursions to Valli Cupe canyons, 40 minutes' drive away
  • Restaurant on site with wood-fired oven and evening entertainment
Seaside hols: sorted. Sena Park Village is a spacious family site in Cropani Marina, 10 minutes’ drive from Cropani town and a leisurely five-minute amble from the beach. And oh, what a beach it is… a real Calabria cracker, the sands stretching out for many a kilometre in either direction, with the waters of the Ionian Sea most likely enticing you in for a swim. There are serviced areas for folk who like to stretch out in style, and wilder forest-flanked stretches for those who like to escape to their own quiet little spot. If that sea view’s not complete without a drink in hand, there are bars down at the beach that can sort that out for you. A couple of restaurants are within walking distance, and the site has its own as well, serving up wood-fired pizzas, fresh seafood and all sorts of other local and international dishes and snacks. If your dinner inspires you to burst into song, time your meals to coincide with one of the summertime karaoke nights (and if not, perhaps the live music or the dancefloor will be more your thing). If you’re sticking around on site, there’s a fab playground with a bouncy castle to keep the nippers amused for a while, along with activity sessions aimed at kids and teens. And if you’d like to head out to see some of the area, sign up for organised excursions from the site to pretty castles and the gorgeous Valli Cupe canyons.

Local attractions

If you only wrench yourselves away from the beach once, it should certainly be to the fab Valli Cupe canyons (40 minutes’ drive). Join a tour from the site or set out on your own to this spectacular nature reserve – one of the canyons stretches up to 130 metres in height, and there are some gorgeous waterfalls to walk to (including the 22-metre Campanaro falls). Ancient ruins can be spotted as you wander through the woods too, and there’s plenty of wildlife to keep your eyes peeled for. Should those ancient bits and bobs grab your attention, you may also like to set out on a second trip, to see some of the area’s grand castles. The Aragonese fort at Le Castella (half an hour) is a good place to start if you want to stick by the sea; up in the hills, the medieval castle at Santa Severina (45 minutes) is another stunner. Anyone who’s ever fancied themselves gadding about on a classic Italian scooter must surely also pay a visit to the Lambretta Museum in Sellia Marina (10 minutes), to see a collection of retro scooters and find out how they’re made.
