  • Wooded and highly scenic site with a private lake in the Val d’Ambra
  • Easy access to Florence, Siena and Chianti's vineyards
  • Free supply of organic fruits and veggies and hen's eggs
How does one like the sound of a daily supply of freshly laid hens’ eggs and free organic veg and fruit from an on-site allotment? Might one also fancy leisurely lake swims, mountain views and a highly splendid woodland setting, all within easy reach of historic Florence and Siena? Set in the scenic Val d’Ambra, Agricampeggio the smallholding site of Madonna di Pogi has a private lake to swim and splash in on hot days, or to laze alongside should you fancy a peaceful snoozy sunbathe. Otherwise, water-based days can be spent at the outdoor pools for cooling dips and more sunning sessions, and away from the water more leisure time can be spent around the pétanque court and the ping pong table. The site’s allotment and chicken coup is a total hit with previous and highly enamoured guests, for it makes procuring tasty and wholesome eats on site a breeze, as you can take freshly laid eggs and tasty Tuscan fruits and veggies back to your pod and set dins up to dine indoors or out around your private picnic table. Alternatively, bring your vittles to the big communal barbecue and picnic area to scoff sizzled stuffs with fellow guests as you settle back with a glass of fine Chianti wine, all while watching admiringly on as the sun sinks slowly down over the mountains beyond. It all sounds really rather lovely, doesn’t it? The woodland setting here makes for highly pleasant on-hol environs too, as there’s lots of room for on-site ambles, while the accommodation has you with heaps of privacy, because all are set very thoughtfully away from each other among the lush and leafy trees. Previous guests also comment that the super friendly owner Stefan clearly runs this meticulously maintained place with heart and soul, and that he’s oft around on site should you need any local info or help with anything around.

Local attractions

Agricampeggio Madonna di Pogi’s woodland setting is itself all surrounded by countryside and mountains for a bucolic and peaceful vibe, but you're splendidly well connected here too as the park is within around an hour or a wee bit over by car from Tuscany’s most topping tourist destinations, including Siena, Arezzo and Florence – and if you fancy leaving the car back at base, you can hop on the train to Florence and Arezzo from the nearby station in Bucine. On site, hire a bike and venture to pedal around the site’s countryside locale – there’s lots of it – or stick to your pins and have a scenic hike around instead. If you’re travelling with curious-minded littlies, then a couple of topping attractions are within around an hour’s drive, including the archeological museum in Castellina in Chianti and the archaeological site of Poggibonsi: especially eccellente for the youngest of peeps, this site is an excavated archeological dig spanning three different eras, around which you’ll be guided by highly entertaining multilingual actors who’ll regale you with stories of the area’s bygone times. And might touring the vineyards of the Valdarno and Chianti wine region pique one’s holiday interest… Sì? Then that’s another reason to pitch up here, because it’s well within an hour’s drive of several highly handsome Chianti towns, the vineyards around which make for splendid days filled by quaffing and swotting up on local wines like Brunello, Montepulciano, Vernaccia di San Gimignano and, of course, Chianti.
