A little slice of Tuscany heaven – and how. Camping Paradiso Di Viareggio is in Versilia, surrounded by ancient pine woods spreading from the park of San Rossore to the town of Viareggio, and within walking distance of several lush Tuscany beaches. And how #2: from here it's easy to reach some of the most topping arty and historic cities of Tuscany – Florence, of course, but also Lucca, Pisa and Siena; while for nightclubbers and party peeps, all sorts of glittery venues are within easy reach from the nightclubs of Torre del Lago Puccini to the swanky clubs of the Versilia coast. #3? Tuscan cultural events like the Festival Puccini and international sports tournaments in Viareggio and surrounds are also easy to get to from here – and the site is close to natural and wildlife watching settings like Lake Massaciuccoli and the protected San Rossore Massaciuccoli natural park in Migliarino. And #4: just behind Viareggio rises the arc of the Apuan Alps with their caves and marble quarries (the famous caves of Michelangelo, arty sorts). Back – finally – at base, the Camping Paradiso team reckons there's something on their site for all tastes and how right they are: grownups can take in the site entertainment or soak up the sun while the kids are kept happily busy by the site team, and there's a three-level swimming pool around for all ages. Among the other plentiful and pleasant facilities are a bar and restaurant/pizzeria, a playground, a shopping bazaar (huzzah) and a grocery shop. Bike hire is available for gentle pedals on the nearby seafront promenade or investigating the local area.

Local attractions

As might have been hinted, heaps is around to do in the area surrounding Camping Paradiso Di Viareggio, whether you fancy city shopping and museums, the Tuscany coast, wildlife watching or festival going. Viareggio, the local town, has long sandy beaches, a promenade and nightlife to keep you going until dawn; the local carnival takes place in February and August. Most folks will know Pisa for its famed wonky tower: if you want to see it for yourself, it's a 30-minute drive away in the city's also-famed Campo dei Miracoli. Lucca, famed for the walls surrounding its Old Town as well as for its many scenic squares, is also about half an hour away. Florence is about 100km away and well worth a dawn start for a day trip to see its fab sights and attractions. You won't get round it in one day, but make a point of seeing the cathedral and bell tower, the Accademia gallery and the Uffizi gallery with paintings by arty sorts like by Da Vinci and Botticelli. A bit further afield is Siena (160km), a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its Palio di Siena horse races and another Old Town.
