  • Peaceful park on Lake Garda, five minutes’ drive from Gardaland
  • Lazise and Peschiera within 10 minutes; half an hour from Verona
  • Restaurant, bars, swimming pool with slides, playground, wifi and shop
Camping Le Palme is in a corner of the Olive Riviera bursting with attractions and activities – a quiet park, right on the shores of Lake Garda, it’s under five minutes’ drive from the Gardaland and Expedition Pangea theme parks for fab family days out. It’s also got countless amenities on site for the kids, from a swimming pool with slides to a top-notch playground. A bar-restaurant means there’s no need to lug little travellers far for food, although off-base eateries are steps away, and Lazise and Peschiera del Garda’s restaurants are a 10-minute drive for a change of scene. Bambinos have ample room to play at the spacious pitches, which are supplied with electricity, water and drainage, and during the busiest season peace of mind comes courtesy of an on-site GP paediatrician who’s around to help with health questions or issues. Grownups without any kids haven’t been left out either – a bar is near the swimming pool for child-free aperitifs and wifi is available on site for uploading those envy-inducing solo or couples’ holiday pics to your social media (extra fee). Guests are sure to be snapping shots of the gorgeous Garda scenery – this site is in a nifty position for explores of nearby mountains, accessing rich regional gastronomy and taking part in watersports and boat trips. The park also has a grocery shop and three heated amenity blocks with hot showers.

Local attractions

Lake Garda is more or less plonked in between Milan (an hour and 50 minutes’ drive) and Venice (an hour and a half), plus it’s 90 minutes from the southern reaches of the Dolomite mountains for some of Italy’s best hiking and biking. You’re most likely here for sights closer by, however, including the city of Verona (half an hour) – head here for a look at the 14th-century Romeo and Juliet balcony, professed to be the one from Shakespeare’s renowned play, as well as a massive first-century Roman amphitheatre hosting opera performances and the like. Mantova is another city to skedaddle towards for the dreamy Ducal Palace (15 minutes), a handsome building containing the fresco-filled Bridal Chamber. The same architects also crafted this destination’s Te Palace, whose Chamber of the Giants is completely covered with mythological murals. Want to keep day trips more local? Check out attractions like the splash-worthy Caneva Aquapark (five minutes) or set forth for the safari experiences at the Parco Natura Viva (15 minutes), a breeding centre housing endangered animals.
