Sunny Glamping at De Rimboe

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Well, you may try and get to the root of this question at the Dutch Poultry Museum (10 minutes’ drive) in Barneveld. With a fowl garden, museum and incubators with hatching eggs, this place will introduce you to the history of poultry. For more animal encounters, Burgers' Zoo (25 minutes) is a huge zoo with a safari park and tropical rainforest, while Ouwehands Zoo (half an hour) has many animal shows. Mad about museums too? Netherlands Open Air Museum (half an hour) is a collection of historic houses, farms and windmills that may make you feel like you’ve taken a step back in time. Elsewhere, Paleis Het Loo (40 minutes), once a hunting lodge, is now a heritage house where you can look into the stables, coach house and gardens. Pick up the pace a little… the rides at Walibi Holland (55 minutes) may very well have a thrilling effect. The theme park has rides including rollercoasters, river rapids and magic castles. Utrecht (45 minutes) shouldn’t be overlooked either. While it’s renowned for the Dom tower, the historic centre also has canals, overwater café terraces and a relaxed metropolitan vibe.
