Welcoming guests for more than 20 years, Càmping l'Alguer is a well-appointed site in a wooded location in the village of Les Planes d'Hostoles. It's among the mountains of La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, in a land of gorges along the Brugent river and Cogolls creek, and is around an hour’s drive of Girona and the coastal resorts of Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar and Santa Susanna. A seasonal outdoor pool and a kids’ paddling pool are next door (with changing rooms and a shower area too), all surrounded by lawns, mature trees and lush mountain views beyond. On site, there's a ping pong table, bike hire, and a playground with slide, seesaw and merry-go-round. Càmping l'Alguer's seasonal restaurant and bar – which, handily, has a large covered terrace overlooking said playground – uses organic meats and other local produce to dish up breakfast, lunch and dinner. A packed lunch and takeaway service are available too; fresh bread and croissants are made on site to serve in the mornings, and Sunday meals can be ordered. During July and August, guests can book onto Saturday morning excursions to see the eco-friendly cattle farm where the restaurant sources its meat.

Local attractions

With its waterways and wooded hillsides, this area is particularly primed for outdoorsy pursuits such as walking, cycling and fishing. Around three kilometres away lies the waterfall of Gorg del Molí dels Murris, and there’s a pretty hike from the old town of Sant Feliu de Pallerols, around five kilometres away and up the surrounding oak-filled slopes. As befits such a lush mountainous area, loads of other outdoorsy activities are around to try out, with horse riding, paragliding, mountain biking and hot air balloon rides all recommended by the site team. Highly unlikely, but if ever you tire of all the active options around Camping L’Alguer’s immediate locale, cultural days out can be spent around Girona’s spectacular ancient Jewish quarter, around 45 minutes’ drive away, and you can drive to the coastal resorts of Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar and Santa Susanna in around an hour.
