  • On 24 acres adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, with easy highway access

Seven golden sandy miles… that's the length of beach accessible from Turtle Rock RV Resort, at sunny Gold Beach on the spectacular southern Oregon coast. Have long leisurely days and evenings around here with Pacific Ocean seashore walks, spectacular sunsets, agate and driftwood gathering, and picking the wild blackberries that grow around the resort in summer. Within a short drive, the Gold Beach region has events all year round including festivals, fairs and fishing derbies, and California and the Redwood National and State Parks are just under an hour to the south for day trips among vastly tall trees. Turtle Rock has spacious pitches able to accommodate any size of vehicle including big-rig and fifth wheel. For when you're not on the beach, there's a fitness centre to get puffed at, and a hot tub to sink into afterwards. A TV room and free wifi make for lazy evenings indoors, or you could spend some time at Arch Rock Brewery and the Hunter Creek tavern, a quick stroll from the resort. A launderette is available for guests, along with bathrooms and a drying room. Propane can be bought from the Turtle Rock team.

Route directions

The resort is on the spectacular Southern Oregon Coast, 35 miles north of the California border. Turtle Rock Resort is on the banks of Hunter Creek as it flows into the Pacific ocean. It's at the southern end of the city of Gold Beach, three miles south of the Rogue River between mileposts 330 and 331. There are highway directional signs both north and south a quarter of a mile from Hunter Creek Loop where you will turn. If you're coming from the south, take the second Hunter Creek Loop turn. Turtle Rock Resort's 10 - 20, GPS coordinates are latitude range 90.0 to 90.0, longitude 180.0 to 180.0. Please double check to make sure the route you are given is a safe way to drive. Do not take Bear Camp Road. Gold Beach Airport is just south of the mouth of the Rogue river. For door to door directions go to www.randmcnally.com click on the Fastest and Concise buttons. The Rand McNally site gives correct directions. Many directional internet sites say to travel by way of Agness. That road is usually closed but not signed closed for the first 20 miles. When not closed it is a four-wheel drive adventure at best. BIG RIGS may want to take I-5 to Highway 42 at Roseburg to 101 and turn south at Bandon. Drive down the coast to Gold Beach. It takes about 1/2 hour longer, but the roads are better suited for large RVs. From the north (Eugene, Salem, Portland and north), the resort owners recommend going south on Interstate 5, then going west on Hwy. 42 west to Coquille then 42 south to Bandon, then south on US 101 to Gold Beach. From the east (Grants Pass, Medford or Ashland), take Interstate 5 to Grants Pass, follow signs to Hwy. 199 in Grants Pass which takes you into northern California briefly. Turn on Hwy. 197 which leads to US 101, follow US 101 north to Gold Beach. From the south (California travellers located in Sacramento and south) are best advised to take Interstate 5 north to Hwy. 20 west toward Ukiah, then US 101 north to Gold Beach.

Local attractions

Set where the Rogue river meets the Pacific Ocean, the small city of Gold Beach is an excellent base for events around the southern Oregon coast, or for sticking close to town to fish for salmon or giant tuna, bask on the beach or take a boat out. (Also importantly, Gold Beach has the area's biggest bookshop.) Events in towns within a 25-mile radius include America's Wild Rivers Coast Art, a seafood and wine festival, an old-fashioned county fair, the Annual Jess Hillyer Memorial Salmon Round-up Fishing Derby, the Oregon Coast Cycling Festival, the Hathaway Jones Tall Tales Festival, the Festival of Quilts, and shows by the Ellensburg Theatre Company and the Pistol River Concert Association. You could be outdoors around here any month of the year, taking in the area's long uncrowded beaches and headlands; hiking the Redwood National Park and the wilderness of the Rogue River–Siskiyou National Forest; tidepooling, crabbing and clamming; fishing in the Rogue or the Pacific, and visiting heritage sites like the Cape Blanco lookout. Keep an eye out for wildlife too: elk, deer, bear, osprey, eagles, otters and more can all be seen in the surrounding area, and whales are often spotted in the Pacific Ocean waters around the resort. Also try jetboating, windsurfing and golf, or try your luck in one of the local casinos.
