Booking a stay halfway between Bath and Bristol, and with easy access from the A4, is an excellent idea – it means you’ll be able to make trips to both of these vibrant (but very different) cities, and also try out a whole lot of fabulous attractions and activities in the Somerset countryside. Occupying this attractive location is Avon Valley Farm Certified Location, a small touring site for CAMC members only. The handful of pitches here are part of an arable farm – it’s a working farm, but generally fairly peaceful and calm (although there can be some noise from the nearby Bristol-to-Bath railway line sometimes). The pitch area of the site is pleasingly flat and populated with plenty of hedges and trees for privacy and shade. It’s a scenic place, too, with views towards Kelston Roundhill and the River Avon, and several paths leading from the farm down to the river, to the village of Saltford or to the Bristol-Bath cycle path. It's also easy to stroll to the nearby farm shop (just under a mile away), which serves great breakfasts and sells a good range of local produce, including local meat. Back at base, you’ll be staying on a serviced pitch with access to toilets, chemical disposal point and waste facilities. Dogs and kids are welcome – and the latter will probably be delighted to find that they're staying next door to the Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park, which is open through school holidays and for some special events (such as the October pumpkin patch and Bonfire Night fireworks display).

Great position, level pitches and not too many trees. Would return.

Syntes om: The site has great access. although a bit bumpy on the approach road via the railway bridge. Pixash lane is directly off the A4. It was exactly what it says on the tin, a small field with open views, a tap and a chemical toilet disposal, EHU and grass or hard standings. The site manager was friendly and flexible over meeting to get payment. The site is within an easy drive to Bath or Bristol and the X39 bus is a bonus if you don't want to take the car. Very quiet in between trains, although we did 5 nights so we got used to it. There is a petrol station nearby and a Tesco express under 2 miles away. Larger shopping and food outlet opportunities slightly further afield. We used this location for visiting Bath and it served us well.

You won't need to travel far to get started on the outings and activities – it’s only a few minutes' walk to the Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park, to meet farm animals, walk among (animatronic) dinosaurs and enjoy the play areas and rides. If that's not your style, you can instead stroll to Active Outdoors for paddleboarding, archery and axe throwing, among other activities. Further chances to exercise your competitive streak are close by at Stockwood Vale Golf Club or Congo Falls Adventure Golf (both 10 minutes’ drive). If you’d rather take in the scenery, there are plenty of paths around for walks and bike rides, and Avon Riverside station is 10 minutes’ drive away for heritage rides on the Avon Valley Railway. Although the rural offerings are great, so are the nearby cities. Both Bristol and Bath are easy to get to by bus or train – choose Bristol for the SS Great Britain, M Shed, Bristol Aquarium and We The Curious, or head to Bath for a historic stroll around the Royal Crescent, Bath Abbey and Roman Baths.
