If you're having a hol anywhere in Finistère, or Brittany, or indeed France at any point, you surely must check out the GR 34 path. Acclaimed as one of the most viewsome in all the land (which is surely saying something), this spectacular coastal stretch runs for a full 1,800 kilometres along the Brittany coast, following the 18th-century customs route set up to foil local smugglers: it's a bit of a must. And for handy access to the spectacular footpath? Rest your travelling self at Camping Les Prés Verts aux 4 Sardines, to have direct access not only to the GR 34 but to a splendid sandy beach for serene times post-hike. There's lush coastal setting all around too: Les Prés Verts overlooks the blue waters of Concarneau bay, one of the most famed fishing ports in all of France. Les Prés Verts is a friendly and laidback site, where staff will be happy to point you in the right direction of local activities including nearby bike trails, horse riding and Concarneau highlights. It's excellently set up for days around the grounds, with a pool and a paddling pool (both heated in July and August), a play area (suitable for seven- to 12-year-olds), two table tennis tables, and a miniature golf course free to use if you have your own golf balls and clubs. A giant chess set is next to the pools. Eats are easily sorted as well: a bakery is within a kilometre and the nearest supermarket and petrol station are within two. Bag the freshest catches of local tuna and sardines three kilometres away at Concarneau, at the daily fish market and the markets on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Lokale seværdigheder

This is simply spectacular setting for Brittany beach and Brittany coastal days, with easy access to several hiking and cycling trails as well as to the hikes of the GR 34. Trails to try include the Boucle du Moros of just under six kilometres; the Lanriec-Le Minaouet-Manoir du Bois circuit, just over nine; the Dorlett- Kerandon circuit (six and a half kilometres) and the Trois Vallées circuit of seven kilometres – all are doable by foot or by bike. If you'd rather cover a bit more ground on your sightseeing adventures, an equestrian centre is at Kergueres, a kilometre and a half away. An early stop must absolutely be Concarneau, three kilometres or under 10 minutes' drive away. There's a lively town centre to potter around, a still livelier fish market from 6am every day, the Marinarium biology station (the oldest in the world, fishy fact fans), and the Ville Close walled town surrounded by granite ramparts. Boat trips to the Glénan Islands leave from Concarneau's harbour.
