Unpowered concrete and grass site

Liked: Great location, right off the road. Tidy site and discrete pitches

Disliked: Only 3 toilets for the site, 1x men’s, 1x women’s, 1x disabled. Didn’t cause us any huge issues as the site wasn’t full, but can imagine it would be different if running at full capacity

Fully-serviced concrete and grass site (premium)

Liked: Great pitch and decent facilities. Food in the pub was excellent and staff were very friendly.

Disliked: Could do with a dog walking space, but this isn’t a major issue

Unpowered concrete and grass site

Liked: Lovely little campsite. We had a pitch right down the bottom so was lovely and quiet. Pitches had hard standing and grass. We used both as weather was perfect. They were a really good size. Toilets were kept clean. The staff in the pub was lovely. Didn’t get to have a meal but will definitely be back. We had a lovely stay thank you.

Powered concrete and grass site (comfort)

Liked: Lovely setting with countryside views and river running behind. Private pitches which gives security and boundary for young ones. Slight downside if tent ish on larger size. Quiet site on the whole. Good position to get to lots of tourist spots - Dawlish, Brixham, Torquay etc.

Disliked: The toilets / washing areas smell horrendous. They are cleaned and appear clean but despite this the smell permeates around the top of the site so if staying near this area you can’t get away from the smell. It really is putrid. Only 3 toilets (one male, one female, one disabled). Food at the pub very disappointing, expensive and lacks flavour.

Unpowered concrete and grass site

Liked: The place was lovely and suited us nothing really there for children but if they just enjoy being outside it’s perfect .. was worried about noise being so close to a pub but didn’t hear anything.

Local attractions

You can barely turn a corner in this part of Devon without coming face to face with a stately manor – Bradley, Compton Castle, Greenway, Castle Drogo, Coleton Fishacre, Cockington Court, Torre Abbey and Dartington Hall are all with 45 minutes’ drive, and a visit to the spectacular 16-sided A la Ronde, 35 minutes away, is highly recommended. Tipplers might like to make the trip to Buckfast Abbey outside Buckfastleigh (10 minutes), though you won’t be able to do tours or tastings at the factory. If the Abbey doesn’t get you steaming, head to the South Devon Railway and climb aboard the vintage train, or abandon alcohol-related puns altogether and head to the Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary. Fawlty Towers fans will be keen to learn that Torquay is less than 30 minutes away. Although you can no longer visit the real-life hotel behind the comedy, there’s plenty to keep you entertained: follow the Agatha Christie Mile to get a glimpse of some of the spots that inspired the murder mystery maven, dive below the Devon coast in the prehistoric Kents Cavern, or play giant at Babbacombe Model Village.
