Liked: Nice to have your own lane in the orchard, very picturesque view to wake up to.
Disliked: 1. The path/road on the campsite is poorly maintained. It's a giant mud pit and I fell twice on my way to the toilet in the night. Recommend laying gravel. 2. The facilities are not adequate for camping. There are two toilets next to the restaurant which is the main attraction. They are a long way from the campsite and it's not easy to get to after dark. The bathrooms are tiled and furnished as one would a restaurant toilet, which quickly resulted in a very slippery and muddy mess covering the decorative tiled floors. The toilet paper is stored in a basket on the floor underneath the basin, collecting mud and dirt as you walk in and out. Both these aspects are health and sanitary hazards. Recommend the toilets you received planning permission for is situated closer to the campsite, has industrial non-slip vinyl floors installed, and makes use of proper wall mounted toilet paper dispensers. 3. There is one shower and two washing up basins close to the campsite. The area serves as a dumping ground for the premises. There are piles of rotting wood, dead branches and what seems to be a container of rubbish and glass bottles that was wrapped in black plastic but spilling out onto the ground. Again, a health hazard and a very unsightly and distasteful side to the premises. Recommend this is cleaned up. 4. The lanes in which you are allowed to pitch are not clearly marked. The couple next to us spent 3 hours pitching their tent and setting up camp. Soon after they started packing up, when we asked what had happened, they said they were just informed they are not allowed to camp in that lane and need to move. It took them another two hours to take everything down and re-pitch 2 lanes down. We were lucky to have chosen a lane where we were allowed to camp. In hindsight this was poorly communicated because we cannot recall explicit instructions not to pitch up in that area and it's not listed in the "rule book" you are handed on checking in either. Recommend putting up sign posts in the lanes you may not camp. That poor couple spent almost 5 hours pitching up and down! 5. The site does not have appropriate gates to close off the entrance to the property at night. Instead, they decided to place what looks like an antique grass roller in the middle of the dirt road in an attempt to block anyone from entering the site. We came back from the beach one evening and nearly wrote off our car driving into this farm implement. The heavy roller is the height of a car bumper, and the remainder is a metre high metal rod with a handle that's only seen in headlights once you're close to driving over it. Honestly - there is a reason why boom gates have reflectors on them! Once again, a huge safety hazard and a big accident waiting to happen. Highly recommend you install something proper. Overall, this site sells itself for something it has not yet achieved. From a hygiene, sanitary and safety perspective, it has a very long way to go. Not quite the "bees knees" they sell themself as!

From the manager: Good Morning Cornell Kortenhoeven Thank you for getting touch and I am very pleased you enjoyed the ciders so much. As for your stay, we put in 12-18hour days 7 days a week running the Orchard Cider business and for 6 months of the year the campsite on top of it all and so appreciate constructive criticism. The track through the orchard on which campers drive down had received 100 tons of gravel in the last 2 years, more was due for this year with a roller but the later and consistent rain meant that would have to wait until it dried out, which is did directly after your stay, multiple tons of finings and gravel have been spread there now. We don`t have a restaurant, however I am very pleased you feel they are of such a high standard.:) You may not have read the site Map and leaflet correctly as it describes more a 3rd bathroom around the side of the Tasting room and another shower which you may have missed. Thank for your recommendations. We clean 8 times a day all facilities and maintained to a high standard, we have more than enough facilities for our small number of pitches according to regulation. When it has been damp over night and the freshly cut grass across the Cider Garden lawn and around the camping pitches, the grass gets walked into the bathrooms making it seems messier that it really is. The new bathroom block we have just received planning permission for this Spring has is sited alot nearer the pitches for specifically that reason, Great minds think alike. The New additional bathrooms and showers would mean that we as a site has over 4times the amount of bathrooms and showers we actually require by license. Just another way to show you that we legitimately care for our guests and quality of their stay with us. I have been recommended something a by a guest in years past and have made the improvement within the very hour of her asking. The rainy weather which as make New records this Spring meant that new springs welled up in parts of the orchard which ad never been wet, hence why the pruning's were not able to be disposed off with large tractors making ruts in the orchard as we work hard to make sure our visitors enjoy your stay. The pallet of cider bottles we took from a cider makers widow who we were helping to clear out her late husbands cider making kit, we have yet to find a use for them. The persons next to you we spoke to and seems to have had a wonderful time. The Map clearly shows where the pitches are and my colleague and myself would have spoken and directed them to where of the enormously well spaced pitches to set up in, "feel free to pitch a pitch which you like best, from the Polytunnel, down the road, either side until the two oak barrels in them middle of the track, not past it" is what we say. Our planning allows camping in specific areas of the Orchards, not just anywhere guests like. If they werent sure, they should have spoke to any of us who are always around to help and make sure you enjoy your stay. We do ask those to enter and exit the site quietly and slowly, this is in the Orchard camping leaflet. Perhaps if you drove slower you would have more time to see things. The Antique roller must have been moved there by someone else or a visitor, I was not there when I went past last, that evening. If you had spoken to us whilst you stayed with us or even upon leaving we would have list literally gone to the ends of the earth to make sure we do whatever we can. We put alot of care into our work and as you may now the Great British weather does not always play games as we would like, this leads sometimes leads to puddles for instance or certain jobs like clearing pruning's be put aside temporarily ( this has now been cleared and sorted FYI). Your recommendations are valued and heard. New ADDITIONAL to required bathrooms are due shortly, 3x mens, 3x womens, 2x mens showers, 2x womens showers in additional to the facilities we have at the moment. We are Always improving. Onwards and Upwards as they say. All the Best, we look forward to you staying again so we can change your mind. Have a nice Summer
