Liked: We were greeted by such welcoming and friendly staff. The toilets and shower blocks were clean. The views are amazing. It's nice, quiet and super dog friendly. It's very conveniently situated to explore the surrounding area. We will definitely be returning.

Disliked: There was nothing we disliked

Liked: As usually we were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to our pitch. Toilet block was clean and great to see new showers installed, which were always clean. Pub next door is fab, Sunday carvery is amazing! We've stayed here a few times and will be back.

Disliked: Temperature in some of the showers was too hot to stand under, but not the end of the world.

Liked: The setting and position as a great base to stop. Food in pub , especially the all you can eat breakfast was neither expensive or cheap but great quality local food. The rates for the pitch were cheap enough. even electric. We shall return.

Disliked: only gripes were no water tap points, lack of lighting around field. the unisex shwers need and update though clean . new ones slighly better attached to back of the pub.

Liked: Great choice of pitches on fairly level ground. Very helpful and friendly staff. The Inn does a superb carvery on Wednesdays and Sundays. All facilities expected.

Disliked: Inconsiderate neighbours who played music just that little bit too loud. The Inn's non-carvery food was not the standard of the carvery (the meal I had was quite poor, 'beef stew').

Liked: I love this location. And don’t understand why people complain. It’s £20 a night and a lovely location. Sam the manager of the site is fantastic. Always about to help if required. The extra showers and toilet blocks at the back of the pub are great, clean and always had hot water in showers. The pub is brilliant and well priced. Watchet market on a Wednesday is lovely and the fresh fish van is outstanding and cheap. Always something going on in surrounding area. We can’t wait to go back.

Disliked: That I had to leave.

Local attractions

Make the most of Exmoor stays by signing up immediately for an Exmoor Wildlife Safari, clambering into the back of a Land Rover for guided excursions through the park, keeping eyes peeled for deer and the rare Exmoor ponies. There are no long treks to get going either, as the tour guides will pick guests up at Dunster, Dulverton or Exford, all within about 25 minutes’ drive. Get a closer look at some of the area’s wildlife (as well as some more exotic specimens) at Tropiquaria, a small Art Deco zoo in a former BBC radio transmitter station 10 minutes from base, or travel a little further (30 minutes) to the Exmoor Pony Centre to learn about the native ponies and even take a ride in the park. If interest in watery getaways was piqued by beach days in Minehead and Watchet, but less salt would be preferable, head along to Wimbleball Lake or Clatworthy Reservoir (both within 15 minutes) – the first for birdwatching, trout fishing and lessons in windsurfing, sailing, canoeing and rowing, and the second for pretty scenery, boat hire and fishing. Dip a toe into the past by visiting the Museum of Somerset and the military and cricket museums in Taunton, half an hour away, then dive further in with trips to Dunster Castle, Fyne Court and Knightshayes, all within 35 minutes of base. Prefer to finish hols on a celebratory note? Stumble over to Yearlstone Vineyard (40 minutes) for a tipple or two.
