Liked: Near to the beach, the bar was lovely with a lovely view of the sea, the shop was handy.

Disliked: Advertised restaurant/cafe on site but they weren't serving meals as they dont currently have a chef. A heads up would have been nice as there are no pubs/shops within walking distance. The railway track that ran about 10 foot away from the site. So our pitch had the railway track to the rear of us & the toilet block directly in front. Not enough showers & toilets, a long wait in the morning.

From the manager: Hi Joanne, thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We're unsure of where you saw us advertising a cafe/restaurant on site. We are hoping to offer to hot meals very soon! all the best, The team at Hendre Hall.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked: My second stay and still loved it. Great views of the sunset and only 2 mins walk to the beach. Lovely clean pitches and site, with clean showers and toilet facilities. Very friendly owner, Mei was really helpful in sorting pitches where my friends and I could stay together. Friendly staff, and close to train station to venture in to other towns. Lovey little farm shop on site too. I’d highly recommend having a beach fire and watch the sun go down - simply magical!

Disliked: Not a dislike, but more an FYI: the beach is a rocky beach and you will only see views of the sea not the beach from the site, which is still very lovely. It does have a train track running along the edge of the site that likes to say “hello” as it passes but this didn’t bother me, but might bother others.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked: Everything! Close to beach, toilets, showers and bins. The kids had the best time on this site. Only a small site, very safe for children.

Disliked: The shop wasn’t great for young children/families. We had to drive to a coop to shop but would have used the site shop.

Local attractions

When you set down here, ready your swimming gear, as Bala Lake (40 minutes’ drive) is a fine setting for sailing, wild swimming and canoeing or hiking the hills on all sides. The kit will come in handy for exploring the Barmouth (30 minutes) seafront by paddleboard, too, or windsurfing and kitesurfing in Aberdyfi (20 minutes). If more active pursuits are what you like your holidays chock-full with, Dolgellau (20 minutes) is a good point of departure for hikes, mountain biking or climbing crags. More beach paddles, perhaps, in Tywyn (15 minutes), followed by a traditional butter bun? Perhaps your preferred way of taking in views is from a cosy seat on an old steam train, such as the Fairbourne Railway (five minutes). It’s one of several historical places you might want to seek out – others include the Dyffryn Ardudwy burial chamber (40 minutes) and the Italian-style Portmeirion (50 minutes) village. Plas Brondanw Gardens (50 minutes) was designed by the same architect that created Portmeirion.
