  • Quiet rural site on a working farm 15 minutes’ drive from Usk
  • A 15-minute drive from the Offa’s Dyke Path; access to Cycle Route 42
  • Farm shop and café; firepit provided with logs and charcoal for sale
If you’ve ever thought about life on a quiet farm, get your taster at Newchurch Farmshop and Campsite. With a fully-stocked farm shop and café, this peaceful site has an on-site farm shop and café, so they’ve already sorted out a way for you to tuck into fresh farm produce. Country views? That’s all sorted too. The site has gorgeous scenery over the Monmouthshire countryside, as well as views of Abergavenny (to the north), the Severn estuary (to the south), the Black Mountains, the Skirrid and the Graig. That might leave you pondering: ‘Where exactly is this rural place?’. To be precise, Newchurch Farmshop and Campsite is in a gorgeous hamlet, 15 minutes’ drive away from Chepstow and Usk (home to a mighty-fine salmon fishing river, an 11th-century castle and a town trail). If hiking or cycling is your go-to hobby, never fear… Cycle Route 42 passes right by the gate at the site’s drive. The Offa’s Dyke Path is 15 minutes’ drive away too, a 177-mile route laid down by King Offa back in the 8th century. Just get back in time for sundown over the firepit provided on site. Logs and charcoal are available should you decide to cook alfresco style. If you prefer, order a takeaway for your evening meal from the on-site café upon your arrival and save yourself the cooking. When it comes to other facilities, there’s a portable toilet and a summerhouse, which has running water, electricity and a fridge.

Local attractions

Since you’ll be in a rural spot already, it only makes sense that Raglan Farm Park (15 minutes’ drive) might be one of your first port of calls. The kids are likely to love this one, with bouncy castles, a sand pit and farm animals all around. From the furry or woolly things to the more historic, next up on your itinerary might be the medieval Raglan Castle (20 minutes) or the ruins of Tintern Abbey (15 minutes) in the Wye Valley. There’s a castle in Chepstow (15 minutes) for those who want to continue their historical tour, or else, look around the tunnels and grottoes that were built under the Dewstow Gardens & Grottoes (15 minutes) in the mid 20th century. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, get out to Abergavenny (35 minutes) and make your break into the mountains of the Brecon Beacons National Park from there.
