  • Family-run site situated on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Direct access to Porthsele beach; a mile from Whitesands
  • Farm shop, coffee hut, bar and pizzas available in high season
Fancy a stay on a family-run farm… with direct access to a beach below? Make your way to Pencarnan Farm Caravan and Camping Site, a 96-acre farm overlooking Porthsele beach on the Pembrokeshire coast. The site is on the most western tip of Pembrokeshire, with views of St Georges Channel connecting the Irish and Celtic seas. You'll be in good company with a stay here: generations of the same family have been running the site since the mid-1950s, a holiday spot for guests who return year after year – some with their kids and grandkids now in tow. This place is just the ticket for outdoor adventures too, as it's set directly above Porthsele beach (with private vehicle access so you can cart all your kit along with you). The sea and bay are safe for swimming and kayaking, and there are plenty of rockpools to explore at low tide. If you haven’t got your fill of sea breeze, surfing beach Whitesands is a one-mile walk along the coastal path or, if you’re feeling adventurous, a half-mile swim or kayak from Porthsele. Sorting supplies is easy at the farm too: in the high season, a site shop is on hand with camping and food supplies, wetsuits and logs for beach fires, and a coffee hut opens every day. A bar and pizzas are also available at peak times.

Beach Field unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: Beautiful, clean and tidy site in perfect position for the coastal footpath. More than enough on-site facilities. Easy to find and access. I accept that the facilities in May on a Monday and Tuesday aren't going to be in great demand and therefore good of opening were limited

From the manager: Thanks so much for your review, we're glad you enjoyed your time at Pencarnan and hope to see you again soon.

3-amp Rhosson Field powered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: We have been staying here for 30+ years and it’s just as lovely as ever.

Disliked: For a mid-week off season stay (with no fresh food in the shop, no coffee shop and no beer or pizza) it is disappointing not to be offered a lower rate overnight stay. The ladies toilets also needed cleaning/mopping.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your review, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay on the whole. We haven't yet entered high season, and so you did pay a low season rate, which reflects the limited facilities. I do hope you let someone know about the ladies toilets so it could be rectified.

Liked: Location, view, beach, staff, quite laid back feel

Disliked: Our pitch was a bit exposed

From the manager: Thanks for your review, we're glad you enjoyed your time at Pencarnan and hope to see you again soon. Wind is the price one sometimes pays for those sea views and cliff top location, so there is little we can do about that. I'm glad it didn't put too much of a dampener on your stay.,

16-amp Ramsey Island Field powered grass caravan site

Liked: The view, the pizza, the bar, the staff friendless, hot showers and nice facilities, spacious pitches and location. Dog friendly. Great access to the beach and coastal path.

Disliked: The showers only last five seconds before you have to push the button again, however I appreciate there is a water supply issue but give us a minute to wash hair :D lots of young toddler kids running around and screaming at the courtyard most of the evening, not the campsites fault obviously but not enjoyable trying to use the bar and pizza kiosks.

From the manager: Thanks so much for your review, we're glad you enjoyed your time at Pencarnan and hope to see you again soon. I will feedback to the team about the showers. We are a very family friendly site.

3-amp Carn Llidi View powered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: Beautiful View, access to the beach

Disliked: Very expensive for what it was £65 for one night, toilet block was situated furthest away from camping sites meaning was long and dark when needing to use the toilet overnight

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your review. Our prices are clearly advertised (indeed paid) before arrival. The toilets are a 2 minute walk away from Carn Llidi View. It's a trade off between a stunning sea view and closeness to the facilities.

16-amp Rhosson Field powered grass caravan site

Liked: A spacious field with EHO. Plenty of room for the dogs to run, onsite facilities are clean and well maintained, including a shop, coffee shop, bar and pizza oven. WiFi also available in the courtyard. Just a short 5 minute walk to the small sandy beach, if you can walkthrough coastal path to the beach of White Sands.

Disliked: The approach road is narrow and difficult when passing other vehicles. Phone signal is poor in places.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks so much for your review, we're glad you enjoyed your time at Pencarnan and hope to see you again soon. Phone signal varies a lot depending on your network, and this far West it does dip out in places - as you mention we have free Wifi available on The Courtyard.

16-amp Ramsey Island Field powered grass caravan site

Liked: Friendly reception on arrival, huge fields with spectacular views, easy walk down to beach, excellent showers. Shop was open and coffee shop too though didnt use. Others like pizza and bar not open as too early in the season. Good value and overall very good.

Beach Field unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: Beautiful site with great facilities, the coffee shop, bar and pizzas were a surprise. No need to wait for the BBQ! Good showers, and hairdryers! Friendly and helpful staff. Great place to stay.

Disliked: Some of the locks on the female loos are quite stiff or don't slot in properly so either take your chances with an open door or lose some skin!

Local attractions

This is heaven for beach buffs: Porthsele and Whitesands beaches are both within walking distance of Pencarnan. At Porthsele, take your pick from kayaking, surfing and paddleboarding from its sandy shore; if fishing's more your bag you can fish for mackerel, pollock and seabass from the beach and from certain points on the cliff around Pencarnan's land. There are also a few marked climbing spots around the cliffs on the land and some good entry points for coasteering or a coastal swim back to Porthsele beach… followed back at base with a sunset beach fire or barbecue to end the day. The famed surfing centre of Whitesands, a mile away on the coast path from Pencarnan, has a café, deckchairs and wetsuit hire, plus lifeguards in the summer months. Heading south, St Justinian’s (under a mile away along the coast path) is home to RNLI St Davids Lifeboat Station and a departure point for boat trips around, onto and beyond Ramsey Island to spy seals, seabirds, porpoises, whales, dolphins and sharks. Make time too for a trip to the tiny city of St Davids, to browse its shops and galleries and take a look at sixth-century St Davids Cathedral.
