Up in Macapá, you might like to see a bit more of the mighty Amazon by having a wander along the Trapiche Eliezer Levy riverside boardwalk and visiting waterfront São José de Macapá Fortress, built in the 18th century and still standing strong today. It’s worth diving into the riverside Sacaca Museum too, to have a look around traditional houses and displays of bits and bobs collected from Amazonian locals. Time to cool off again? Head out of town to the waterslide and colourful kids’ play areas at Aquaplay Macapá waterpark (40 minutes). If you’d rather watch others in action, see if you can catch a game of football at Zerao Stadium (40 minutes).
