  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés
Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: This is a great little campsite situated just on the edge of Cropredy village, the pitches are generous with many having ehu, its great for children of all ages with animals, bouncy castles, football pitch etc. The campsite has a great shower and toilet block which was always clean when i used it, it also has a small shop where the reception is for forgotten essentials. The location is great for walks or cycling with the canal just up the lane for a walk into the village along the tow path. The staff are friendly and helpful and check in is very easy. The whole campsite has a very laidback feel with a vast majority of the campers happy to enjoy the site and facilities, there are several hard stand spaces and plenty of grass to camp on, it can be quite busy on summer weekends but never feels crowded. The site rules are very relaxed and simple but will be applied if needs be or if people ignore them and cause a nuisance. All in all a great place to stay for a night or a week or two and on Saturday night they do a great pizza and chips.

Disliked: Most of the things that are disliked are out of the control of the site are are very small in number. The campsite is very near a goods train line and they do operate at night , doesnt bother me I live on a main road. On a busy period the shower and toilet unit cans become very busy, again I rarely use them as have a motorhome, its just a case of picking your shower time. The showers also dont yet have hooks or a shelf to hang or put clothes inside the shower itself and they are universal.

10-amp powered grass campsite

Liked: The campsite is lovely, excellent facilities with an onsite shop and take away kitchen, prices are very reasonable as well! Family friendly and the lady that greets you and serves you in the shop was lovely. Pitches are well kept and spacious and the kids loved the bouncy castles, play areas, the goats and the birds. The onsite falconry, that is donation, is fantastic and the young lad that looked after it on Saturday was lovely and very knowledgeable about the birds. The kids loved stroking a barn owl! This could become a regular visit for us as its within an hour but feels like you are in the middle of nowhere! I cannot comment on the WIFI as none if us used it, but between Vodafone & O2 the signal on site was great!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The campsite was well looked after and very friendly. It was full of character, the goats and birds were an added bonus! Friendly staff. Very dog friendly which was great for our puppy’s first camping trip. Very nice pleasant weekend stay.. we will be returning 😊

Disliked: Lots of children but that’s nothing against the site, the provisions for children were amazing, we personally don’t have children and prefer a quieter weekend away so we ensured to choose a pitch far away from the play equipment which suit us well 😊

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The facilities were excellent - bouncy castles, play area suitable for older children and toddler ages. The petting goats were a real bonus and the campsite served hot food too. The location is brilliant too with a lovely walk along the canal and two pubs to choose from.

Disliked: The only thing to note is that there is a train line right next to the campsite and so we found on the Friday / Saturday it was particularly loud but tbh our kids love trains so it was a hit with them!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Easy check in... set up pretty much wherever you liked...able to be near our family... the animals were a great extra... we didn't have any but fantastic that there was hot food to purchase.. close to a lovely canal walk... close to a pub... seemed very safe..

Disliked: No control over people being noisy after about 10pm... we were there2 nights and the noise went on until at least 2am... no consideration for anybody else.. it was more like a festival vibe than a campsite..

From the manager: The site is manned 24hrs with the contact number clearly displayed (and on your booking). We are happy to come out at any time to deal with inconsiderate neighbours. However if we are unaware of the situation then we are unable to help.

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
