Liked: Small site, well maintained, quiet village, next door to pub which serves excellent food.

Disliked: Just thought it odd that the campsite owned by the pub is dog friendly but the pub isn't.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We apologise for any confusion but the rule on dogs is clear on pitch up before booking. We love dogs but as a small country pub that is very very busy and food led we had to put a stop to dogs In the pub I'm afraid. Our village is full of dog owners like ourselves and they completely understood our decision to do this as it was causing a problem. Once again sorry for any confusion all we can do is put it in the site discription for people to read before booking. (which it is)

Local attractions

Wildlife isn't hard to come by in this part of northern Cumbria, as you're a mere five-minute drive from Watchtree Nature Reserve, a former RAF airbase that's been rewilded and has a number of tarmac car-free cycle trails to explore (with bike and tricycle hire also available). For more time outdoors, head five minutes down the road to the Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre and learn about how to handle a hawk like a pro. Having Carlisle so close by is also a major plus – drop the kids off at Fusion Trampoline Park (10 minutes) for a big old bounce, push your limits and scale the different courses at Eden Rock (15 minutes), a local indoor climbing centre, or learn more about the area at Tullie House Museum And Art Gallery (10 minutes). Drive slightly further afield and you'll quickly come to more top-quality days out. The nearest waterside spot in the Lake District National Park is Bassenthwaite, half an hour from base, a relatively quiet lake that's home to rare bird species including osprey.
