  • Well-maintained family glampsite near the village of Smarden in Kent
  • A 35-minute drive to Port Lympne Safari Park; Canterbury 50 minutes
  • Secure site with communal kitchens, five minutes’ drive from shops
A five-acre site set between the pretty Kent villages of Headcorn and Smarden, Go Glamp is a friendly, family-run sort of place that welcomes kids and dogs. It has a chilled vibe so relaxation is never going to be a problem – and your privacy is pretty much ensured, thanks to there being plenty of space around the camping fields. Communal facilities include a kitchen area for food prep and washing up, and refrigerators to keep your food (and drink, very important) chilled. Sparkling-clean toilets and spacious warm showers are found adjacent to the car park. Mobile phone charging points are available, but please warn any teens that internet access is limited. Barbecues and firepits are available for hire, and buckets of wood can be bought for a small charge. Pick up essentials from the convenience stores in Headcorn (five minutes’ drive), or you can ditch the car and walk to the pubs in Smarden (half an hour) if grilling up supper isn’t on the agenda. A trainline runs along the back of the site, bound to London and back, where guests can spy on the Pullman and steam trains (it runs twice per hour and not between midnight or 6am). Guests can also often spot light aircraft displays, hot air balloons and parachutists and wing-walkers from the nearby aerodrome. For your extra safety, the glampsite is secured with automatically closing electric gates; an entry code will be given to you on arrival. If you have any queries or problems, do ask the owners, who live on-site.

Yurt

Liked: This campsite is amazing, from the moment you arrive you are made to feel so welcome and well catered for, there isn't anything you need that isn't there already! The Yurt is huge and so lovely, exceeding all of our expectations, thexsutr is beautiful and feels safe and well looked after, the roaring cats in the back ground added that little extra magic along with Tony the pony, there really is only positive things to say, the showers abd loos are spotless, the communal area has everything you'd ever need and more, and there are plenty of nice places to nip off to see to keep kids entertained, we can't wait to come back!

Disliked: Nothing, everything was 10/10

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY!!! Waste of time and money. Really loud because of train station on the camp site and main road also surrounding the campsite. We came with two families, with 2 toddlers and 2, 10-year-old boys. Extremely rude workers came up and at 8:30 they told the kids to stop playing football and at 9 they did check ups on all families and came to tell our toddlers to stop speaking because it was 9, they come and check up on everyone twice at 9 shushing people! They have posters hanging everywhere saying children must be quiet from 9 even when its light outside and no theres no music is allowed, even though the radio was playing not loud, they made checks and told us to turn it off. They do not want cars to be on the grass, really do not recommend especially with families because it’s almost impossible to make two toddlers stop talking. The showers are also cold.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to write some feedback. We have a noise policy (not uncommon in many campsites) which we do adhere to. We do walk around the site in the evening but this is to make sure that everyone is ok and to check they have the gate code to get back in if they leave the site and not to just 'shush' people. We do politely ask that parents/guardians quieten their children down after 9.pm, which is not unreasonable particularly if other campers have mentioned the noise. We try to minimise the number of cars on the site to not only make it safer for children but also, this year has been particularly wet and the ground is still very soft, which creates ruts in the ground and vehicles becoming stuck. The showers are on a set temperature to avoid potential scolding, if you felt they were cold, this could have been investigated had you let us know.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Friendly and accomodating host. Good facilities. Unusual to hear lions roaring (big cat sanctuary next door!) while camping in the UK. If you're an aviation enthusiast, there's plenty to see in the sky from Headcorn Aerodrome - Spitfire, Harvard, wingwalking Stearman, skydivers and much more.

Local attractions

If you want to get active on your glamping break, the whole family can have a runaround on treetop ropes at Go Ape Bedgebury, or go dinghy sailing and climb the inflatable courses at Bewel Water (both half an hour’s drive). Slow things down with nature rambles around the arboretum at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest (35 minutes). Plenty to do with animals as the focus too: see silverback gorillas, big cats and African elephants in semi-wild enclosures at Howletts Wildlife Park (50 minutes), or take a jeep safari at Port Lympne Safari Park (35 minutes) to spy on rhinos and stately giraffes. If you have younger kids in tow, let them have a cuddle with the friendly inmates at Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats (20 minutes). Canterbury Cathedral (50 minutes) may be calling to history lovers, who can visit the scene of Thomas Beckett’s murder in 1170, before having an amble around the city centre’s half-timbered streets to the porcelain collections in ornate Beaney House of Art and Knowledge. The medieval cathedral and Norman-era castle in Rochester (40 minutes) are both open to tour, or you can do a spot of window shopping on the historic high street.
