Liked: Absolutely loved it. Peace and quiet. Brilliant facilities, well maintained. Easy walk from the car, even easier with a wheelbarrow. Really spacious. Wondering surroundings. And a decent phone signal if that’s what you’re after.
Disliked: Only downside was that people didn’t put the wheelbarrows back and kept them on their pitch - not helpful when trying to pack up - maybe a note to be added on the blackboard? But this is me being super picky as we really couldn’t fault it at all. 100% recommend.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review, I will remind campers to replace the wheelbarrows and we will consider purchasing more for busy weekends!

Liked: The site was remote enough that we weren’t disturbed by noises from traffic. We liked the policy of no cars on the pitch as it meant no doors slamming through the night, and the field hadn’t been churned up by vehicles. The facilities were clean and well maintained. The area was lovely. There was a handy village shop within easy walking distance, and the woods around the field were full of wildlife. At night it was dark enough to enjoy the night sky. We appreciated the request for campers to be quiet after 10pm. It was a wonderful, peaceful atmosphere. The site owners were approachable, and helpful. It was nice to be staying somewhere that was obviously cared about by the people running it.

Liked: We chose this site for our trip based on location, facilities, and the fantastic reviews left by previous campers. It was 100% what we were after – a great, back to nature experience, with the comfort of flushing loos and hot showers! Our first impressions were perfect, and they didn’t change much. The Daggles is right out in the middle of the Dorset countryside, and the field is spacious with just six pitches. We were lucky to have the whole field to ourselves for two of the four nights we stayed, which was just amazing, and I think because of the remote nature of the place, you don’t tend to get noisy folks and drunk people here. The loos and showers have been installed this year, and have been thoughtfully done – there are hooks for your stuff in the right places, the soap in the loos is good, and there’s decent loo roll too, which is always appreciated! The showers are one temperature, but it is a good warm one, and have decent pressure. They were perfectly clean, although the spiders were also appreciative of them! We had a cold shower one morning but when we mentioned it to Jess, Mark was out at the crack of sparrow fart the next morning to make sure we got hot showers that day. Can’t ask for better service than that! The fire pits are a brilliant addition to the field, and we were able to get great roaring fires on three nights, with extra wood from the farm when we burned through our supply. Mark and Jess have totally got the balance right with their attentiveness to the campsite – they are friendly and welcoming but leave you to it, which is perfect. I really dislike campsites where you feel watched and over-policed, and at no point did I feel this here. We also chose The Daggles based on the location. We wanted to do one day along the Jurassic Coast, and one day at Glastonbury and Wells, and although both are a drive away, the location worked perfectly for us. Dorchester and Yeovil are within around 20 mins in the car for supermarkets, although I’d recommend bringing stuff with you for your first night at least – you won’t want to leave this little paradise to go to Tesco once you’ve set your tent up! We loved the darker skies on the nights that were clear (we got one night of torrential rain and stormy winds) and we were able to catch the ISS and various other satellites overhead. Much as I’d love to keep this place to myself, I can’t recommend The Daggles Dorset enough as a peaceful spot, and have already told several friends about it. We’ll definitely be back, it is such a fantastic site – I want to feel like I’m out in the wilds, but I also want a hot shower and a flushing loo!
Disliked: I’m having to be super picky to come up with anything I disliked, because I loved the place! There were two things I can comment on, and neither of these are true criticisms or anything Mark and Jess could do to improve the place. Firstly, I was surprised at how narrow the country lanes to the site were. We had no issues and only had to reverse to a passing place once or twice, but anyone with a bigger vehicle might want to be aware of this. The country lanes are a little trek, and are quite steep in places, and they seem to take longer than you might think to get to the site, but you don’t get this level of peace and quiet without getting off the beaten track. Secondly, the site is under a flight path – I’m assuming from Bournemouth? But the planes are up quite high at the point they go over, so you get a rumble of engines for maybe 20 seconds or so, once in a while. I didn’t find that it detracted from the peace, and definitely didn’t interrupt my sleep or anything. As I say, I’m being super picky to come up with these – and I definitely wouldn’t let them put you off choosing The Daggles for your trip.

From the manager: What a wonderful review, thankyou. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us! I'm looking into whether we are on the flight path for anywhere, it's not something I have ever noticed. I do wonder if you were referring to military air traffic from Yeovilton which can be sporadic, either way hopefully it didn't spoil your trip!

Liked: Absolutely lovely site. Only allows 6 tents and that leaves PLENTY of room for all. We even had the field to ourselves one night! Lovely set up with the showers and toilets, good size (enough room to turn around without hitting the sides/room for children to be in the shower/toilet with an adult easily). Only 2 of each but due to the limited number of guests it works out fine. Lots of local wildlife around - cows, sheep, owls, pheasant to name a few that we saw. Host was friendly and available with questions/via phone if needed. She did say that the field could be hired privately, which would be an Amazingly fun things to do with friends/family. Sherborne was only 10-15 mins away with a selection of shops in between if needed. Would definitely recommend a visit.
