  • Small site in a woodland clearing 10 minutes' drive from Wareham
  • A 20-minute drive to Durdle Door; 25 minutes to Swanage beach
  • Monkey World and The Tank Museum five minutes' drive away
Fancy parking up at a pitch in a gorgeous little glade in the woods? Somewhere small that feels secluded but is actually handily placed for all sorts of Dorset days out? Take your motorhome along to Clouds Hill Glade, in a rural spot 10 minutes’ drive from both Bere Regis and Wareham. There’s very little by way of facilities here, so you’ll need to come along in a motorhome that’s self-contained for facilities and power (there is a septic tank for disposal but you’ll need to use green chemicals only here in order to protect the local environment). In return for bringing along your own facilities you’ll be rewarded with a peaceful place to stay, surrounded by woodland and wildlife and backing onto heathland and more woods for some splendid walks and bike rides. It all feels rather delightfully detached from the rest of the world, but when you do venture out you’re likely to find this location on the edge of the Isle of Purbeck to be rather handy. The National Trust site Clouds Hill is just over the road and the Lawrence of Arabia Memorial a few minutes’ walk away, and it’s a couple of miles to a couple of Dorset’s top attractions in the form of Monkey World and The Tank Museum. Beyond all of that are plenty more ways to fill your days – whether you fancy hitting the Jurassic Coast, taking a ride on the Swanage Railway or coming face to face with the Cerne Abbas Giant, it’s all within a half-hour drive.

Primitive gravel RV campsite

Liked: Very little to be honest

Disliked: Ok so we arrived only found it as we spotted a motorhome through the trees , It's very good at being in disguise! First impression a small clearing of the road a patch of woodland whilst I appreciate it is described as a real basic campsite I do feel the owners could at least perhaps put up a few solar lights mayby add some bins so people don't just throw there waste in trees .when we arrived people opposite had been gathering rubbish up that others had left ! Another suggestion is that perhaps as people are paying to stop here perhaps flatten the camping spaces they were very lumpy rocks etc I feel that we are being charged to stay and the owners are making very little effort with this little plot which could be made quite a prittey little spot I will add we are easily pleased and not fussy we love to of grid which this was in all honesty a layby of a busy road

Primitive gravel RV campsite

Liked: A no frills site set in the woods near to Bovington camp , beautiful, quiet site with lots of wildlife 😀 you will need to be off grid capable to stay here as only facilities are a toilet waste disposal. Bit tricky to find the entrance but give the owner a call and he will guide you perfectly 👌

Disliked: Absolutely nothing.

Primitive gravel RV campsite

Liked: nice secluded spot, not too many spaces

Disliked: that it was difficult to find. The sign was very small and dark, only on one side of the road. It took over an hr to find it, driving all around and up and down the road. The sign is far too small. Also Compost loos would be nice to have.

Local attractions

The twin attractions of Bovington (five minutes’ drive) are likely to feature on the itinerary for many guests here – stop in at The Tank Museum to see armoured vehicles from across the ages, then have a giggle at the apes’ antics at Monkey World. Similarly, it’s pretty much impossible to resist the draw of the Jurassic Coast when staying in this area. Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove (20 minutes) are perhaps the most famous spots, but there are lots of other lovely corners to seek out, and of course some great walks linking them up on the South West Coast Path. For other days out, take your pick from madcap floating obstacles at Dorset Adventure Park, peaceful strolls at the Blue Pool, clambering over the ruins at Corfe Castle (all 15 minutes) or maybe settling on the beach in Studland or Swanage (both 25 minutes).
