  • Dog-friendly wild camping site on the edge of a South Somerset village
  • A 40-minute drive from the Jurassic coast; walking trails nearby
  • Barbecues and firepits permitted; pub and shop five minutes’ walk away
Springfield House is a hot spot to go wild camping… on the outskirts of a South Somerset village, this dog-friendly site has pitches in a pretty remote field in a conservation area with walking routes in the surrounding area and the Jurassic coast 40 minutes’ drive away, so fossil-hunting at Lyme Regis or a soft paddle around the shallow waters at West Bar may make up part of your itinerary. The village of Hinton St George has a Grade I-listed church that you’ll be able to spot from the site, but the place you’re most likely to frequent has to be the village’s pub, just three minutes’ walk away and traditional-looking with a thatched roof and stylish innards. There’s a village shop here too, a handy place to gather together those essentials on your shopping list. You might want to get in some sausages and buns for a barbecue back on site or the parts you'll need for a firepit, as these are permitted on the site too - both a good way to wind down the day. As this is a remote wild camping site, you’ll want to turn up well-equipped for that type of stay. Handily, though, the site has some convenient facilities including a drinking water point connected to the mains and a portable toilet.
