Powered gravel travel trailer campsite (small)

Liked: Lovely, quiet location, set away from the main road, with stunning countryside views. Facilities were very clean and tidy. We really enjoyed seeing all of the animals and were even treated to a fantastic display by the peacocks one morning (although they were rather vocal!) I would like to thank the gentleman who was in charge of the site whilst the owners were away as he was very welcoming and his recommendations were extremely helpful.

Disliked: Nothing, but although the site is only small I do feel that it might benefit from some extra facilities as it only had one toilet and one shower. Having said that, we never had to wait very long to use the facilities and they were always very clean.

Liked: Great location - nicely tucked away from the road but within 20 mins drive of Tobermory. The pitches are perfectly flat and there is landscaping around them to improve privacy.

Liked: Pitched amongst the trees and bushes with great views, well laid out, not your typical camp site. Facilities functional and have been advised are to be updated for next year.

Disliked: None as far as the site goes but weather very wet

Local attractions

In addition to the Mull Aquarium, with its sustainable catch-and-release policy (residents are let go after four weeks), Tobermory is home to the Tobermory Distillery. This artisanal whisky distillery has been going for more than two centuries, and it runs guided tours and tastings. Lots of wildlife boat trips also set off from Tobermory Harbour. For a day at the seaside, head to Calgary Beach (half an hour’s drive), in a deep bay on the west coast of Mull. Just behind this vast expanse of white sand is Calgary Art in Nature, a woodland sculpture trail. Among its creations are a willow stag, a timber shark and a fairy house in the trunk of a tree. Overlooking the Sound of Mull from a rocky perch is the 14th-century Duart Castle (35 minutes). Check out the family portraits in the Great Hall before visiting the Clan Exhibition, which illustrates the link between the Maclean family (who built the castle) and the Scouting Association.
