Tracing the North Coast 500 up to the Highlands and Islands? You won’t need to alter your course at all to stay at Davochfin Farm Certified Location, a touring site for Caravan and Motorhome Club members only. Just a couple of miles from the A9 and the North Coast 500, it has simply sublime views of Struie Hill. Davochfin Farm is a family-run working farm and recreation space next to the Dornoch Firth. It has three trout-filled lochans for fishing, and for golfers, it has a 10-bay golf driving and practice range along with a nine-hole pitch and putt course. Those of you who successfully landed a fish at the lochans can use the site’s barbecue and pizza oven area to tuck into your own catch. If you feel inclined to go strolling, a variety of walks lead from the farm into nearby woods and also down to the beach (something that should be attractive to hikers and dog owners alike). There’s lots of wildlife to see in the area such as ospreys and otters. The site also runs farm tours where guests can learn a bit about livestock farming and meet the farmers and animals. You get the best of both worlds here: the peace of being on a rural site but quick access to shops and restaurants. Davochfin Farm Certified Location is around half an hour’s walk (just a mile or so) from the local town, Dornoch. It has a museum, chocolate shop, cathedral restaurants, cafés, pubs, shops and a stunning sandy beach – the beach is a bit further on, around 45 minutes’ walk away from the farm.
