Liked: The location, facilities and setup of the site were fantastic. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the up keep of the facilities were spotless. It was easy to access the city or any of the many golf courses around. We played Royal Musselburgh course which was beautiful and the food was fab too. We will be back very soon.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Primitive grass tent campsite (backpacker, no cars, solo)

Liked: Good showers, Very clean and good facilities. Well signposted from main road.

Disliked: Receptionist was very awkward about car parking despite explaining that kayaks on roof rack was very expensive and I wanted to keep it close to me. She said it was a fire risk but other campers had their car next to the pitch.

Liked: Shower room is warm, clean, modern and even has the radio on. Shower is just bliss! Very organised campsite, friendly and helpful staff. Great pitch size, facilities all very close by. Campsite is close to bus stops and a walking distance from the Trainline. 10mins on train to Edinburgh.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: This site is one of those rarities where the photos do not do it justice,it’s way nicer ! Staff could not have been more welcoming and were especially so to our dog, giving us a complimentary packet of treats for him. The dog walk on site is perfect for a short stroll too. There is a well maintained play area for kids also. The site is immaculate and extremely well planned and looked after. The shower/toilet blocks, heated and playing music, were what you would find in a hotel. Spacious, very clean and loads of amenities. One of the two blocks even has baths. The laundry room had everything you’d want and the disposal room was one of the best I’ve ever used. All in all fantastic value for money, couldn’t fault it and will definitely be back !

Disliked: Leaving, wish we had booked for longer !

Local attractions

The local bus to the festival city of Edinburgh (25 minutes' drive) runs every 10 minutes during the day, every 20 minutes in the evenings, and every hour at night; the journey takes about 40 minutes. The train from Wallyford runs every hour and takes 10 minutes. There are numerous things to see and do in excellent Edinburgh, but if you're only spending one or two days there, recommended options are the castle, Holyrood Palace, the National Museum of Scotland and the zoo (which has first-class views of the city). Elsewhere, Drummohr's location makes it easy to get to all types of days out around the coast and countryside: golf courses, historic houses and stately homes. The Prestongrange Industrial Heritage Museum (five minutes) has free entry and is a few minutes' walk from the park. Musselburgh (also five minutes) has a lovely walk along the John Muir Way. Other recommended trips nearby include Tantallon Castle (35 minutes) on its headland overlooking the Firth of Forth, trailing nature in John Muir Country Park (25 minutes) or the Lammermuir Hills (40 minutes), an afternoon among the gardens at Tyninghame House (25 minutes), or taking a boat ride around Bass Rock (half an hour to the North Berwick ferry) to see the gannet colony. If the Bass Rock boat ride gets you pondering more about the winged life of the area, the Scottish Seabird Centre is also in pretty seaside North Berwick. At nearby Dunbar (25 minutes), about 60 breeding pairs of kittiwakes are found near the harbour, and nearby East Links Family Park is child-friendly.
