Alpaca Area - Ash bell tent (four person)

Liked: The value for money is so good at this place. Also very easy to find. My husband and I stayed Saturday night with our daughter who loved the alpacas. The whole experience is so peaceful and serene. Very clean and breathtaking views. The hosts are so welcoming and friendly! Moly was amazing host showing us around especially introducing us to all the alpacas. We have already booked or next visit. :)

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite (backpacker, small, two person)

Liked: The site was beautiful and the staff were very friendly and couldn’t help enough. Compost toilets were well maintained and didn’t smell. River was great and full of trout for fishing. The alpaca were an amazing addition and my son had the chance to go and feed them free of charge.

Disliked: Honestly nothing to dislike here

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (family, maximum 6 metres)

Liked: The location is great, the river runs alongside the tent pitches, there's a pub on site that serves food and drinks and there's plenty of outdoor seating space.

Disliked: If I was to be picky, probably the fact that there ain't any shower facilities, hence why my stays have only ever been 1/2 nights. But don't let that put you off.

Poppy's Patch bell tent

Liked: We stayed for 3 nights in May 2024, with 3 children aged 11,8 and 6 this site was great. Lots of wooded areas for the children to explore, the beautiful river for them to paddle in and of course the alpacas!! The owners were fantastic and very knowledgeable, they were present on the site, regularly checking in to see if everything was OK, inviting the children to feed the alpacas and keeping the place clean and tidy so everyone could enjoy their trip! We booked onto the alpaca walk which the kids loved and we learnt so much about alpacas, we would definitely recommend!! The composting toilets were no trouble at all and the kids learnt a lot about water wastage and why composting toilets help the environment.

Bed-in-a-shed microlodge

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: The website I'd booked on said arrival times 2pm-anytime. I arrived at just before 11pm to a closed pub with no reception. I attempted to ring the number provided and email them with no response. I spoke to other campers at the site and they said the pun had shut at 10pm. I'd travelled 120 miles and paid £40 for a bed in a shed. I was staying over to attempt snowdon via crib goch so I needed to sleep. I tried to sleep in my car which failed and I had to drive 120 miles home at 2am. I've contacted the site and they are refusing a refund and stating they were open when I arrived why is a blatant lie. Do not stay here lying scammers.

From the manager: As a family run business, we pride ourselves in our customer service and will go above and beyond for any of our customers to ensure their stay is as enjoyable and relaxing as possible. Unfortunately, there are some factual anomalies about your review which need pointing out. -At the time you stated you arrived, we were still open and serving customers in the pub. No-one came in the pub to announce an arrival. -You say you rang but we did not receive any calls. There were no missed calls on the answer machine or messages left. -You say you contacted for a refund-again, not true. We to date have had no contact with you directly. -There was an email finally found in our junk folder was was unable to get through to any one of our three mail boxes. This may be because it came from sender 'allow it fam'. I'm sure you understand how important it is for businesses to put security in place to filter unusual or alarming messages). We are sorry your trip up Snowdon was unsuccessful, perhaps next time if you actually turned up for check in or ring in advance to say you can't make it, we could have amended the booking for a time more suitable for you. For what it's worth, by turning up in person you would have also realised we are the most genuine team of people doing the best we can for our customers. We do not lie-we have no need to and I can assure you we are not 'lying scammers'. This kind of personal defamatory abuse is clearly reflective of the type of person who wrote it.

Alpaca Area - Ash bell tent (four person)

Liked: Superb couple of nights away with two boys 9 and 6 on my own in a wonderful bell tent lulled to sleep by the River Alwen. Caroline and Richard were faultless in their service, the food was great, clean, tidy and the spot was just idyllic. Alpacas were a big draw for my two and it kept them off their screens (mostly). Definitely return!

Disliked: Nothing. Lack of wifi was a plus for me at least!

Kingfisher cabin (seven person)

Liked: Honestly- we are not seasoned campers, far from it. So when the kids (4&11) pestered us to go camping, I had to give in. I hunted for a middle ground and came across the Kingfisher cabin. You know the saying something sounds too good to be true. After reading the brilliant reviews I had doubts but oh my…. The place is serene, the family are just the loveliest people you could meet, the alpacas are soooo cute, everywhere is spotlessly clean (yes-even the compost toilets) and everything was just perfect. I can’t fault the place! Within 30 minutes of being there, the lovely Molly had taken the children off to feed the alpacas, nothing was too much trouble. The kids absolutely loved it. They were talking about that little experience all the way home. I’m so grateful for the memories you’ve given us. The food in the pub was delicious, especially the blackberry and apple crumble (yum). We will definitely be back. Thank you for an amazing, comfortable stay. Keep up the hard work you do, because it really shows. It’s not often you can see passion shine through like at your place. It genuinely feels like you’ve opened your home to your guests.

Disliked: I disliked coming home. The only teeny tiny bit of constructive criticism I could give (certainly NOT a dislike) is showers would mean we could have a longer stay with you. And another little table in the cabin for drinks etc would be helpful. I was so worried about the children knocking something over. To anyone reading these reviews and considering booking - do it. You won’t regret it.

Local attractions

There's plenty to do hereabouts, whether you're inclined to go off gallivanting through the hills of Snowdonia National Park (from 15 minutes' drive), boating on Bala lake (20 minutes) or heading out to see cool castles like the one at Conwy (45 minutes). The village of Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr is in a central location in North Wales, so both the north and west coasts of the country are within an hour's drive too. If you've got kids or teens to keep entertained, popular options to keep them busy include Go Below Underground Adventures (20 minutes), a caving outfit based in Betws-y-Coed, the woodland rides and activities at Zip World Fforest (25 minutes) or taking a trip to see the many species of animals and birds at the Welsh Mountain Zoo (50 minutes). For something silent and serene instead, take a soothing stroll around the grounds of Clocaenog Forest (five minutes; free parking available at Bod Petryal car park), keep your eyes and ears peeled for osprey at Llyn Brenig (15 minutes) or appreciate the horticultural offerings on display at Caerau Gardens (25 minutes).
