  • Well-kept rural Denbighshire site raising money for charity
  • A 10-minute drive to the beaches of Rhyl and Prestatyn
  • Catering on site from Friday eve to Sunday morning
Want to book yourself a break and do some good for the world at the same time? What an excellent idea – and one that you can bring to reality when you stay at Pet Rescue Fundraising Camp Site, a five-acre site in the Denbighshire countryside just outside the village of Dyserth. Profits from stays here go towards funding animal rescue and care – so perhaps it’s no surprise that dogs are welcome to join you for a little holiday here. Doggy daycare is available for those who need it and all dogs will need to be kept on a lead and supervised at all times (and you’ll need proof of full vaccination too). This location makes a splendid spot for exploring north Wales – a cycle path runs past the entrance with a link to the North Wales Coastal Route, and there are plenty of walks around too. Rhyl and Prestatyn are both about 10 minutes’ drive away for beach times, and there are castles, gardens and all sorts of other things to fill days with. You’ll probably get a bit of a warm glow from knowing that you’re supporting a charitable cause by staying here – and that’s likely to grow even stronger when you see the facilities that have been provided. A washing-up area, toilets and showers are all included, and you can boost your break even further by hiring a firepit, grass heat shields (these are required for firepits or barbecues) or a windbreak. Logs can be purchased on site for the firepits. And that’s not all – there’s also a catering area that serves up cooked breakfasts, lunches, dinners and drinks (hot, cold and alcoholic) as well as running events like pizza nights and hotpot gatherings. The catering is open from Friday evening to Sunday morning breakfast.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: I liked that there was large pitch, we had a large 8man tent and a car.. with room for another 2cars. On site 1 they also have a play area, bar, shop and a food truck that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.. food was amazing and fresh as well as fair priced too. It's was my family's first time camping and my daughter is autistic, we all really enjoyed are stay here, an already can't wait to visit again 😁

Disliked: Not so much a dislike, more of a slight inconvenience. The toilets are based at the front of site one, and we was staying at the back end of site 2, in day light this wasn't an issue but at night (mostly for my daughter) it was a bit of an inconvenience, again not a dislike though as the toilets themselves are well looked after and clean 😁

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are so happy the whole family including your lovely daughter enjoyed their stay, Sorry we can only have the toilets on Site 1 as they need electric and there is non in the front field site 2. Its always best to also bring torches when camping especially on a non electric site 2. We will be very happy to host your family on your next visit Happy camping and safe travels

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Nice quiet basic site, close to a very nice village with a lovely pub.

Disliked: Very basic, expected a little bit more for the money

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Basic is a field with nothing in it but For a basic site we feel offer quite a lot} Large pitches FREE Flushing toilets, hot showers, hot pot wash, children's play area, freezer block freezer, small shop, staff are very good at keeping our site tidy and very clean including all our facilities. Plus a weekend bar and catering, all for £9.50 pp a night and we are raising funds for our Pet rescue centre that is open to view also. But we can't suit everyone all the time we can only try our best Wishing you well, happy camping and safe travels

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Nice big pitch

Disliked: The woman that works there has a horrible attitude its like your a massive inconvenience being there not nice when your there to enjoy yourself the weather was great and wanted to stay another night she couldn't give us an answer till 10 minutes before we was due to be off the pitch thinking we was staying with 3 children to then tell us we couldn't stay don't understand why she had to wait to tell us to top it off when I got off the sight I checked on the website and there was availability so I don't know why she did that upsetting 3 kids disgusting she's a power tripimg miserable lady

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Have very sad to leave such a negative review as your husband who asked if you could stay another night was brilliant and said it was because you had all enjoyed your stay so much. The reason I could not inform you if the pitch was empty another night was because I was doing the breakfast in the catering van and did not have time to go into the office and turn on the computer while I had other people waiting for breakfast service. I did not expect you to pack and leave within 10 minutes at all and never asked you to I totally understood and said no rush. If there was room on the website it doesn't mean on that particular pitch as pitches are allocated and we try to rest pitches after use if possible. You booked a one night stay! and non of our campers are an inconvenience the vast majority are brilliant and repeat visitors, but it seem there are exceptions I will say no more other than I find your comments sad and total unfounded under the circumstance as for your statement the woman who works there happens to be the owner and that's me who works a 7 day week from 8am often until after 7pm at night to provide the campsite so perhaps you should think before slating some one of their circumstances first. Wishing you and your family well, happy travel and camping in the future

Liked: Very friendly and helpful. Everything there you need. And on a weekend they do a good breakfast and evening meal which is a good price. So easy to find and not far from Rhyl or Prestatyn.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Bar, food options, great staff, lovely clean facilities and great new toilet block in main field. Shower was lovely and warm

Disliked: Nothing, it’s a superb site for an excellent cause. Only one tiny little bit of feedback: As an adult with mobility issues, having a closer toilet ( site 2) would’ve helped, however the new toilet block in the main field was a superb addition and excellently maintained

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank for you review and it was lovely to meet you, unfortunately we are not able to put a toilet block on site 2 as it's a non electric site but you could have hired a private chemical toilet for your pitch and if you visit again, also mention you are disabled on your booking form as we try to allocate pitches closer to the facilities. Plus we do have a brand new composting toilet & disable shower unit that's wheelchair accessible. Hope to see you soon, take care and happy camping and travels

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: When I arrived inwas in distress as my camper battery light had come on and there was issues with the altinator bracket had come loose. The man running the site helped without question and fixed it all for me. This meant so much to me as I was anxious about driving it home the next day. The kindness and selfless behaviour has made a mark on my heart and I have recommended the site to all my family and friends. And also most importantly all profits go to their animal rescue centre which is also on site. Thank you so much xxx

Disliked: Confused by the one way system but that's probably just me being me :-)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are glad your drive home was safe with no mishaps, thank you for your review and you are welcome back anytime. Thank you for spreading the word x Safe travels and happy camping Marj & Lee

Local attractions

Time to hit the coast? Take your bucket and spade to the sandy beaches of Rhyl or Prestatyn (both 10 minutes’ drive), get over to Llandudno (half an hour) to walk on the pier and ride the Great Orme tramway, or continue to Conwy (half an hour) to explore the castle. For rural walks you can stay local for the 15-minute stroll to Dyserth Falls, climb the peaks of the neighbouring Clwydian Range or dip your toes into Snowdonia National Park (40 minutes’ drive). The pretty pathways of Bodnant Garden (half an hour) are well worth a wander too. This being Wales, you’re never far from a castle – the turrets of Rhuddlan Castle (five minutes) are the closest, but TV fans may like to drop in at Gwrych Castle (15 minutes) to see where I’m A Celeb was staged.
