  • Treehouses in a peaceful 10-hectare forest outside Belfahy
  • Close to the start of the GR59 hiking/bike path and 500m from ski lift
  • Order raclette and fondue to be delivered to your cabin
There's quite a remote wilderness location of this terrific treehouse retreat in the Vosges mountains, half a kilometre from the centre of Belfahy. Which gives you lots of woodland hiking paths as well as easy access to the ski slopes, toboggan runs and showshoeing trails of La Planche des Belles Filles ski resort half an hour’s drive away, and the nearest ski lift starting half a kilometre from reception. This is a splendid spot for forest hikes and mountain bike rides too: the GR 59 path starts just outside the site's boundaries, and there are plenty of other trails nearby suited to all abilities for spectacular vistas over the Rahin valley, the Thousand Ponds and, on a clear day, the Alps. Handy leaflets detailing the routes can be picked up in reception. Cabanes de Belfahy has a handful of lavishly furnished and spacious treehouses, spread around a 10-hectare woodland site, each with its own bathroom with eco-friendly toilet plus shower or wooden bathtub. In keeping with the site’s mission to protect the local wildlife and preserve the natural habitat, you'll also be gifted a set of environmentally friendly toiletries to use during your stay. For food, foraging around the site is actively encouraged: bring local fare like blueberries and mushrooms back to your treehouse kitchen to cook with, or for an easier life, order local specialities such as raclette or fondue to be delivered direct to your door. Feasting supplies can be procured at the nearest large supermarket four kilometres from base, or you can head out to one of several cosy local restaurants down in the village.

Local attractions

There’s heaps to do around here: take the waymarked GR59 path, which starts just outside the site, or blaze your own trail with a wander around the forest that surrounds the park for views out over the surrounding valley and the Thousand Ponds plateau. Lac de Malsaucy 15 kilometres from base has a lake beach, watersports, a discovery trail and a miniature golf course. For a pamper, visit the thermal spas of Luxeuil-les-Bains, at the gateway to the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park. Apart from the health-giving properties of its thermal waters, this ancient Roman spa town is famed as a splendid spot to stroll around: you’ll see statues and gargoyles on architectural treasures such as the former residence of Cardinal Jouffroy, the Aldermens' Tower and Francis I's House, once saved from ruin by Napoleon 3. In winter, head over to Planche des Belles Filles ski resort for several ski slopes, snowshoeing trails and toboggan runs.
