  • In a summer and winter sports haven in the Ecrins region
  • Strap on your skis and go directly from the site
  • Central lodge on site with wifi, books, TV and board games
Skiing sorts, you'll be mighty chuffed with this splendid mountain site. Camping Vallouise is in a winter (and summer) sports haven in the Ecrins region of the Hautes-Alpes, so perfectly placed for pistes that you can strap on your skis and leave directly from the site. If you'd prefer a warm weather stay, you'll also be mighty chuffed, as this is a sunny land of mountain villages, high-up hikes, wildlife watching, kayaking and as much more as you can cram in on one trip.. and that's before even considering what's on offer for your leisurely pleasure right on site. Indigo Camping Vallouise is an excellently-equipped and friendly site way up at 1,200 metres high, a few minutes' walk from the traditional mountain village of Vallouise, in the spectacular Dauphiné Alps setting of Écrins National Park. The climate here is tiptop, with over 300 days of sunshine annually, so you can venture out under the rays at any time of year. There's plenty to do on site for all ages too, including a smart heated pool with deckchairs and parasols provided alongside, and active options such as tennis, volleyball, table tennis and pétanque. There's also a cosy central lodge open all season, with TV and board games, and a free internet point if you want to research where you might like to take your skis to next. The reception area has stacks of info on things to see and do in the surroundings. Camping Vallouise also has a spacious terrace, set (like the rest of the site) among spectacular mountain scenery. Sink down here for peaceful times among all the skiing and hiking, to natter with fellow guests or to have a salad, drink or homemade pizza from the July and August snack wagon. Bread and croissants can be ordered in the evening, to pick up the following morning.

Local attractions

There's a vast pick of pursuits around this mountain region, ranging from wildlife watching in the Écrins National Park to more heady adventures skiing down slopes; rock climbing near Ailefroide, canoeing along the Onde river or whitewater rafting on the Gyr. Climbers can tackle either (or both) the Glacier Blanc and Glacier Noir, each reachable within 25 minutes' drive. The village of Dormillouse about 45 minutes' drive away, leads to a scenic walk around its hamlets and the surrounding Freissinières valley. It's only possible to reach the village on foot, from the entrance to the national park at the Cascades car park; take the bridge over the Oules and hike along the path next to the waterfall. Briançon, the highest town in all of France and a regular stage town in the Tour de France, is 20 kilometres away.
