  • Glampsite in a sheltered meadow 20 minutes’ drive from Dorchester
  • Fly fishing five minutes’ drive; golf and The Tank Museum 20 minutes
  • Furnished bell tents; walks in Southover Woods accessed from the site
Searching for a Dorset break involving plenty of fishing, walking and chilling? Now you can add a touch of luxury into that mix with pre-erected bell tents 20 minutes’ drive from Dorchester. Set in roughly 60 acres of private woodland and meadow, Strive Glamping is a peaceful spot to lay your head, whether you’re on a couples’ getaway or an active weekend away with pals. You can walk for miles direct from the pitches, on a network of footpaths running through Southover Woods, and leading to the long-distance Hardy Way or Dorset Jubilee Trail. If you fancy trying your hand at trout fishing, book a peg at Wessex Fly Fishing (five minutes’ drive), but if you’d rather just enjoy being out in the countryside, relax on site and (hopefully) catch some colourful sunsets. You may also get to spot deer in the woodland, and at night owls often call as they swoop through the trees. Sheltered from the wind by tall trees, each spacious bell tent sleeps up to six people, and they’re all spaced out across the camping meadow, giving you that bit of extra privacy. Thoughtful touches inside include mattresses on two camp beds, bedside tables and lamps, carpeting and rugs to cosy the place up. A few words on practicalities: the bell tent pitches are down a long, bumpy track that can get muddy, and parking is on the other side of the camping field, so you’ll need to do a bit of lugging gear around to get it to your tent. Simple communal facilities on site include a wild shower and a long-drop loo.
