  • Small and friendly site on a Carmarthenshire family smallholding
  • A five-minute drive from Kidwelly; 15 mins from Pembrey Country Park
  • Meet, feed, groom and handle the farm animals during your stay
It’s been proven that there are many benefits to interacting with animals – including a reduction in blood pressure and a boost to your overall mood. It stands to reason, then, that you can quickly expect to feel cheerful and chilled out when you stay at Parc Y Mynydd Camping, where you’ll be sharing the site with a friendly menagerie of goats, pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens and a Shetland pony (among others). This friendly little site is part of a family smallholding in the peaceful Carmarthenshire countryside, with views over Ffos Las, Pembrey Mountain and the coastline. You’ll be welcomed into the gang when you stay here, with the chance to meet, feed, groom, handle and learn about the farm animals that live here. As a pop-up farm site, the facilities here are on the simple side, with a toilet block but no showers on site. In a clever move, the team here have set up two different camping areas: one that allows dogs and the other that’s kept pet free for those who prefer it that way. They’ll also make the effort to group families with small children together and keep older families and couples in a different area so that you’re always likely to be around like-minded guests. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed at this farm site, so it’s a good idea to stop by in the local town of Kidwelly (five minutes’ drive away) to pick up the necessaries for an evening by the flames. The town has a couple of pubs, cafés and takeaways too if you’d rather someone else did the cooking.

Top Field non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Our new favourite Carmarthenshire campsite! We stayed with friends in the top field with outstanding views across the countryside, very large generous size pitches each with a fire pit. Great forest next to the pitches to forage for wood for the open fire which was enjoyed for hours whilst stargazing. The onsite animals were so lovely and cute, the children loved the cuddles with the baby rabbits. Toilets were very clean and tidy throughout our stay. We are already making plans to return to this site, 110% recommended.

Top Field non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The campsite had so much variety, the views were spectacular, the wood line was exciting for the kids and there was various farm animals the children could play with. The campsite was spotless and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The craft tent for the children was a lovely touch.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Local attractions

Going into Kidwelly shouldn’t just be about finding food – the town is also home to a splendid Norman castle in such a classic style that it featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Of course, you’re never that far from a castle in Wales, so you may also like to visit Llansteffan Castle (half an hour’s drive) or head up to the western side of the Bannau Brycheiniog/Brecon Beacons National Park to climb up to Carreg Cennen (45 minutes). The coast around here is spectacular too, with the seven-mile stretch of beach at Pembrey Country Park (15 minutes) a real highlight. The park also has a miniature train, a crazy golf course and a dry ski slope so there should be plenty to keep you all busy for a day there. Elsewhere nearby you may like to explore the shops and market in Carmarthen (20 minutes), wander around the exhibits at the National Botanic Garden of Wales (25 minutes) or look out for wildfowl at WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre (half an hour).
