Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: excellent location, lovely ‘back to basics’ feel, and not overcrowded.

Disliked: The price! Everything has gone up post covid but £27 for one night seemed a lot for a basic campsite. If you add on fire pits, pup tents, dogs etc you would end up paying the same for a hotel. As a solo camper on occasion, I find the campsite prices now are becoming somewhat unattractive!

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: It is a gorgeous site. It was very quiet while we were there and so there were no issues over getting a shower and washing-up. The views are just beautiful and their are lovely walks from the campsite. We had a meal at the Abergavenny Arms which is not cheap, but not overly expensive either. There was a thunderstorm while we stayed there, ad it was pretty spectacular with the lightning across the Tye.

Liked: The views were absolutely stunning. The drive up goremans lane is so so nice driving to and from the site. The pitches are big enough that you feel private on your pitch and being able to hire a fire pit is a nice touch. Not too far from interesting things like the 7 sisters and Brighton.

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: Beautiful views and really lovely to be able to just rock up and pitch. Vet no frills which I loved. Really great customer service to. We were greeted, and even had the chance to buy / hire a camp fire and logs. Great value for money and really close to Brighton for a fish and chip detour on the way home! Cant wait to come back.

Disliked: The pitches do seem to be pretty close to other campers. This could have been because our neighbours had particularly large set ups. No rubbish disposal on site is the only thing I think I would change.

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed our campsite Many thanks for the review. Our pitch sizes are pretty generous at around 10x12m

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: Peaceful site with beautiful views. Facilities were great and spotless. Toilet waste and an ash pile which was very useful. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Great signage to the site from the main road. You are really left alone to enjoy the views and sound of skylarks everywhere. The eggs from the farm are out of this world - prob the best eggs I’ve ever had - the most incredible vibrant yellow yolks so clearly free range! It’s a lovely walk down to the coast surrounded by nature - takes a good 45 mins but so worth it for the views out to sea. It was quite busy when I went but you still felt in the middle of nowhere and it was incredibly peaceful.

From the manager: Thanks for your great review, it is much appreciated. I will let the girls know you enjoyed the eggs x

Liked: Large pitch area, wonderful view, good selection of farm foods and you are left alone unless you need anything.

Disliked: It can get very windy, but that’s expected as the site is atop of a cliff

Local attractions

To see more of those views, get your boots on and head out onto the South Downs Way, which passes very close by. Hardy souls can tackle the route’s full 100-mile length, while casual ramblers can choose a shorter section. A popular attraction along the route is the chalk figure of the Long Man of Wilmington, a tall lad indeed at 72 metres. It’s a four-hour walk to see him, or you could drive there in around half an hour. Heading south, a 15-minute walk takes you down to the coast path, where you can continue your stroll to the stretch of shingle at Saltdean. The pier, beach and historic buildings of Brighton are around a half-hour drive away. If you’re feeling particularly active you can walk there in around two hours and then hire a kayak or paddleboard to take to the sea. If you’d like to see the place that inspired Virginia Woolf to wax lyrical about the area, visit her country retreat, Monk’s House, an hour’s walk from the site. There are family-friendly attractions galore around here, too – it'll take you around half an hour to drive to the steam-powered Bluebell Railway, or to Drusillas Park.
