Liked: We came for the May half term for a week. Absolutely fell in love with this place! Campsite was spotless and well looked after, the best toilet blocks I’ve ever used on a camp site with toilets & showers in the same cubicles (which is really handy with 2 young children to shower at the same time). A dog wash station and dog blanket washing machine on site for after beach trips, we made alot of use of this. The leisure club offers amazing activities and would be enough to keep the whole family busy but we preferred to venture down onto the beach which was a 3 minute walk from our spacious pitch. The beach was incredible, full of rock pools up the side of the bay which was perfect for my little ‘treasure hunters’ and a white sand beach in the middle. A beach which is very easy to spend a lot of time as and get lost in time. We visited Brighouse bay, Dhoon and Carrick bay. And we fell in love with each beach, carrick bay is well worth a visit if your planning a trip to Brighouse bay and to talk a short walk over the cause way to the island. Would just like to add I never write reviews But me and my family have fell in love with this gem of a place and I’m already looking at coming back next year. Would definitely recommend to family and friends!!

Liked: An absolute beautiful campsite. The location was perfect for families with young children. Lots for the children to do on site. Fising ponds beach access , fantastic playground and swimming pool. The pitches were a really good size with a nice mix of tents and vans dotted around the park. Staff were very helpful. The facilities were really good , clean and tidy. Even family unisex bathroom cubicles which were very handy with little ones. We also had our dog with us and the park is very dog friendly with woodland/beach walks. We really enjoyed our stay despite the weather being a bit hit and miss. We will definitely return .

Disliked: The only downside was that the shop closed a little early an the pool and restaurant all closed on a Tuesday.

Liked: The site was in a nice location with access to a lovely beach. We received a very warm welcome from the staff on site and directed to our pitch. The shop on site is well stocked. The entertainment complex is a bit of a walk across the other side of the site but had a nice cafe area and a lounge bar. We had a good so couldn't use the bar but we're able to have a drink in the cafe area. We didn't use the pool but looked a decent size, albeit a bit basic.

Disliked: When we first arrived we pulled onto our pitch. We got out of the van to some very poor language from other guests nearby. This continued for the whole of our stay. Not good when you have a 9 year old. On the first day everyone around us was loud and drunk with lots of swearing. There were also small children running over to a hedge in front of us to go to the toilet. The toilet block was literally 30secs away...not what we wanted to see. Disgusting behavior. The police were also on site when we arrived, again not great. The toilet blocks were okay and clean enough for the amount of people on the site. Had it not been from a few families the site would have been okay. We will not be returning.

Liked: We went with my sister and her family and the site put us on plots next to each other, we had our own little bubble with tree’s and bushes around us. This place has beautiful views and is fantastic for a get away from everything. Long walks, a little beach cove that was very quiet, little woodland walks to get to the beach. Shower rooms and toilets was clean and plenty of room. Lovely play area for the kids to play on.

Disliked: Very secluded. A good 15-20min drive to a small tescos, further for more options, so make sure you bring essentials, there is a small shop on site but limited option.

Local attractions

Fancy a canter? Brighouse Bay Trekking Centre is adjacent to Brighouse Bay Holiday Park, offering horse riding for all ages and abilities (weather dependent and seasonal) from fully trained staff; ask at the holiday park reception for details. Elsewhere, Dumfries and Galloway is packed with pursuits for all ages and interests – and it must be pointed out here that the ice cream and nature trails of the Cream O’Galloway ice cream factory are a mere 15 minutes away… Also nearby – how clever is Galloway as a visitor destination – the Cocoabean Company at Kirkcudbright has interactive children’s workshops and a chocolate shop (hurrah) alongside well-equipped and roomy indoor and outdoor play areas. While in town, kick around the grounds of 16th-century Maclellans Castle in the centre of Kirkcudbright, and have a look at Broughton House & Garden, former home of one of the Glasgow Boys EA Hormel and housing a huge collection of works by Robert Burns (painter, not poet Rabbie). At Gatehouse of Fleet, about nine miles to the north-west from Kirkcudbright, the Mill on the Fleet art gallery holds regular exhibitions and events like literary launches and talks; follow up a morning here with an afternoon at fifteenth century Cardoness Castle or around the thousands of species blooming around at Cally Palace Gardens. And a few more gems that must be seen on a Dumfries and Galloway holiday: a boat trip to huge Threave Castle on an island on the River Dee; a trip to the Gem Rock Museum at Creetown, filled with fossils, rocks, minerals and gemstones, and a stargazing trip to Galloway Forest Park, the first designated Dark Sky Park in the UK.
