Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: We absolutely loved the location. Plenty of space. Lots of good walks nearby. Close to Barmouth bridge. Amazing views. Campsite itself is on the hill with 2 toilets and 2 shower blocks ( hot showers and coin operated ). All in clean condition. Washing up/kitchen area sheltered which is perfect when the weather is not good. Small and quite site where you can have a proper break😀 Really friendly and helpfull owners!!!

Disliked: Midges - but we have been prepared 🤭

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: We liked owners and location is not bad. It was clean and looked after campsite.

Disliked: 🪰 was a nightmare. Almost all pitches are on steep slope. Sorry to say but it was the worst campsite where we stayed. I don't understand why it's got 9.7 review score. Flies are unbearable you simply can not stay and enjoy. Swamps around so only here was this problem. No freezer. I do not recommend.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: None

Disliked: Really disappointed with our trip to Garthyfog campsite. Campsite was on a hill (not ideal) no fridge to store milk or chilled item. We where ment to stay for 2 nights but only ended up staying for one due yo the midjies, we had to stay in the tent due to this as my family where getting bitten. I have counted and I haven been bitten over 40 times

Local attractions

Whether you’re a newbie to the whole walking thing or a seasoned trail veteran, there are walks for all levels locally… and some straight from the site. Perhaps you’ll want to set your sights on Arthog Waterfalls (half an hour’s walk) or go straight for the big gun, Penygader’s mountain trails (under three hours’ walk or 25 minutes’ drive). Those of you who prefer to pedal your way about may want to make headway for the The Mawddach Trail (around half an hour’s walk). This nine-mile traffic-free highway runs down a disused railway line from beachy Barmouth to Dolgellau, where you might want to extend your route along the Precipice Walk (15 minutes’ drive) through meadows, woodlands and a conifer plantation. Your blood may already be pumping from all the activities, but those of you who are after adrenaline practically on tap will want to head on up to Zip World Slate Caverns (50 minutes), where zipwires and trampolines will take things to new heights – not literally, though, as they’re part of an underground cave system.
