Blow away the winter cobwebs with a spring farm break

Take your pick of beautiful farms at home and abroad with outdoor holiday specialist, Pitchup.com

If the winter weather has kept you indoors for too long this winter, now is the time to book a spring escape.  Try a farm with Pitchup.com and enjoy stunning natural settings and perhaps the chance to interact with some rather unusual farm animals!

Wake up with the Water Buffaloes

Families can unleash their inner Doctor Doolittle at Grange Farm on the Isle of Man, a working farm site where residents include water buffaloes, alpacas and micro pigs, as well as more common farm animals including sheep, goats, donkeys, horses and small pets. The site offers a range of spacious pitches with access to great amenities including hot showers and a children's playground.

Electric grass pitches start from £21 per night and sleep up to five people.

Pick a Pod with an Alpaca

Whisk your family away for a farm stay in Wales where they will enjoy the company of the resident alpacas, Shetland ponies, farm cats, chickens and rabbits at Bybrook Alpacas in Carmarthenshire. The brand new log pod is well insulated, making it warm and cosy for a spring stay and offers wonderful views over the alpaca paddocks and across to the valley. Shower facilities and a kitchenette are located adjacent to the pod and are available for exclusive use during your stay. Aside from the animals, there’s plenty to explore nearby, including the woodlands which are just a short walk from the pod. Beaches, theme parks, adventure parks and zoos are also a short drive away.

Prices start from £42 per night and sleep up to four people.

Best Views (with Lambs!) in Yorkshire

Breaks Fold Farm is a quiet, family-run farm tucked in the beautiful Washburn Valley, right on the edge of Nidderdale and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It overlooks the beautiful Thruscross reservoir and has access to excellent hiking, biking and fishing throughout the Washburn Valley. If you want to explore North Yorkshire and the Dales, this is a perfect base - fabulous views are guaranteed!

Being a working farm means that come the spring there are pretty lambs in the surrounding fields - and that any dogs need to be kept on a lead at all times!  And for TV addicts; the area is a popular filming location for TV series such as Emmerdale and DCI Banks.  Pitches start at £16 per night.

Serenity in Switzerland

La Ferme de la Corbière is a small campsite in the grounds of an organic farm, offering spacious pitches near the town of Estavayer-le-Lac, on the south shore of Neuchatel Lake, Switzerland.  Here you can stay in an atmospheric barge moored on the lakeside or for later on in the year the pre-erected corn field tents are a quirky alternative.  The one-bedroom barges are fully equipped with bedding, towels and ensuite WC, while the corn field tents feature a double bed and linen, but you’ll need a torch to make your way to the farm’s nearby ablutions block.  Guests have access to a private beach only three minutes away too, which is part of a nature reserve.

Barges sleep 2 and cost from £111.44 per night; they are available from 1 April, while the corn field tents are pitched from 1 July and are £55.72 per night. For larger groups there are two-bedroom holiday homes that sleep four and conventional pitches for your own tents.

Raise a glass in Chianti-shire

Agricampeggio Madonna Di Pogi is a delightful smallholding in the heart of the Tuscan countryside and the ideal spot for wine lovers: both Chianti and Montepulciano wines are produced in the surrounding hills and valleys.  Immersed in nature and with an on-site swimming pond, the campsite offers comfortable stays in wood cabins and pods.

Guests have access to 29 acres of wooded land onsite, ideal for walking through the fruit orchard or relaxing beneath the trees on hotter days. There’s also an onsite allotment where guests are actively encouraged to enjoy picking the organic produce, free of charge.

The camping pod that sleeps two starts at £12.95 per night, while different size cabins sleeping up to four are available from £20.14.
