Power optional grass tent campsite

Liked: Friendly staff, closed gates at night so it was safe (although I only discovered the closed gates in the morning so was not aware that they were going to be closed).

Disliked: There was traffic noise from the M5 and frequent racer cars with adapted exhausts and thumping music on the country lane by the campsite. The ground was prone to waterlogging and water pooled on the surface of the field after a night of rain. It was a very expensive night in view of the location, lack of drinking water and showers. The only facility was the toilet. There were no directions on the website about how to reach the campsite and Google could not provide a route (as it did not recognise the bridge).

Power optional grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked: The owners are lovely and so welcoming. Very helpful. There is a pub not too far (nice walk down the canal) and there is a cafe on site. It is a lovely place with animals and you can fish there. Also space for a fire (several fire pits). We will certainly back!

Disliked: Nothing really, they are still developing the camping site and will be great when the showers are installed.

Power optional grass tent campsite

Liked: We booked this site to watch the Severn Bore. Camping is a new venture for the charity running the site which provides fishing opportunities for families, particularly those facing hardship or disability. We were made very welcome, there is a café on site, barbecue area and shelter. The toilets are functional & clean rather than fancy. We will come back with the grandchildren to do the fishing.

Power optional grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked: Quiet, unusual grounds. Basic but adequate bathroom facilities. Barbeque pit was great. It's a charitable organisation during the day, fishing, and a peaceful pop-up site in the evenings.

Local attractions

You may find that much of your time here is taken up with the antics on site, but it’s really worth leaving time to get out into the wider area – for starters, there are some nice walks to be had on the paths running alongside the River Severn and the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal. You might also like to head into Gloucester city centre (15 minutes’ drive) to visit the cathedral and National Waterways Museum or make use of the shops and restaurants at Gloucester Quays. The Barn Owl Centre (five minutes) is on the way into the city too, or you could head round to the far side to be wowed by the planes at the Jet Age Museum (25 minutes). For a full day out, maybe consider heading west to the Forest of Dean to explore the trails of Puzzle Wood, delve underground at Clearwell Caves or take to the treetops at the Go Ape adventure park – they’re all pretty close to each other and around 45 minutes’ drive from Catchasmile.
