Powered cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite (water hook-up)

Liked: Good dog walks from camp site & pubs, within walking distance.

Disliked: Pitch location next too main barrier in 'residential' part of the site. Extremely limited bus service from village to Bury St Edmunds.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the review Just for others reference - we do not have a 'residential' part of the campsite. There may have been a caravan or two (no more) that were staying longer than a week in that instance. On arrival we could have allocated an alternative pitch. Or for future bookings why not contact the campsite to find out where you will be located and request important aspects. When you book via an agency site the pitch is often automatically defaulted to the next available. Just ask! The buses run Mon - Sat to Bury St Edmunds in the mornings several times and back in the afternoons, last bus back around 5.30 from Bury. Parting thought - You will have severely knocked down my Pitch Up rating for things that really are not our fault but we do hope to see you again and will be more than happy to discuss which pitch will suit you best.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: quietness and range of attractions / facilities available on site

Disliked: toilet / shower facilities not the greatest, but work was being carried out so didn't get the full picture

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Some updates to the facilities over the winter, not as much as we would have liked as 'rain stopped play' but we are always trying to improve and update something every year.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Though we didn't bring children the facilities looked good for them to enjoy, the cafe/bar area was good to it was just a shame the opening hours were reduced a day after our arrival

Disliked: Having a text during our travel to the site telling us our pitch had moved, we didn't hear or see it, caused some confusion with another couple upon arrival, why wasn't it possible to have a phone call instead, and it would have been nice for the owner(s) to pay us a quick visit to ensure everything was OK, but they didn't. Quality of pitching grass not ideal

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Apologies that is was a late change to your pitch but we did explain that it was to accommodate someone who needed to be near to the facilities due to a disability. I did see you in the cafe and touched base with you about the move which you seemed satisfied with, although I acknowledge you didn't get the message prior to arrival. At the end of a busy season our grass is still in pretty good state of repair so I am not sure what was not ideal about it. If you were not happy at the time we would have been very pleased to look at alternatives. The pitch you were moved to also had water which the original did not. Unfortunately we do not have the trade to keep the longer cafe opening hours once the high season is over. There are two pubs and a fish and chip shop in the village within about half a mile.

Local attractions

Up for a challenge? The Playground, just next door, has a huge assault course to tackle, along with a collection of more kid-friendly obstacles. If that’s given you an appetite for such antics, follow up with a zip through the trees on the canopy trails at Go Ape, half an hour away by car. If that’s not really your style, perhaps trot up the road from the site to Barrow Hall Stables for riding lessons, countryside hacks and summer-hols activity days that should please pony-mad nippers. Want to see the gee-gees going full pelt? The famed racecourse at Newmarket is a 15-minute drive away. Too much adrenaline? Calmer times are around too – perhaps in the cafés, gardens and abbey of Bury St Edmunds, or with a wander through the stunning gardens at Ickworth (even if you’re not usually one for a stately home, this one’s worth a visit – if only to marvel at its perfectly round Georgian rotunda building). Both are about 15 minutes away by car. The pretty half-timbered houses of Lavenham (half an hour away) are worth a look too.
