Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: -Easy to locate -clean toilet and washing facilities

Disliked: We weren’t aware there was more than one tent pitch, I was only aware of the pitch in-front of the farm but later arrivals were pitched up further into the grounds. This may be due to the owner not being on site at the time of arrival. I did call her mobile as requested on a board but was only made aware of the patch in-front of the barn. if this was sign posted we would have noted this… leading onto the issue with the 10pm quiet hour. The quiet hour didn’t start at 10, The cabins behind had some rowdy occupants they were loud until at least 00:30, This was a little irritating to say the least. The owner shouldn’t have to be available all day to guide guests but may I suggest numbered pitches or a clearer route or map on hand to space people out

Liked: Good location, lovely hosts, firepits freely available, host dogs came to visit our tent often and were gorgeous. Friendly horses in the next field! Nice walk to Broughton-In-Furness down the old railway line.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: We really enjoyed our stay at Moss side- from the animals to the owners everyone was so friendly. A lovely walk into Broughton and only a 15 min drive from conniston. The views are amazing here and we really liked how we could pick where to pitch. We will definitely be back :)

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Lovely views with a pleasant walk through woodland and the old railway line to Broughton village. Well kept working farm with roaming animals (escaping pig!) Who visited us at our campervan. Host very friendly and we had the choice of 3 different areas to pitch on.

Disliked: Toilet/shower block could do with a revamp.

Local attractions

Of the many footpaths straight from the farm, the main one is the Foxfield to Broughton route along a disused railway line right into Broughton. Other paths can take you to the Broughton Mills area, Seathwaite valley and Ulpha valley; ask the Moss Farm team to point you in the right direction. If you're in the area for watersports, Coniston Lake, the third biggest in the Lake District, is the closest to the farm and is 10 minutes' drive away. Otherwise try pony trekking at Spoon Hall near Coniston, Muirthwaite Green at Silecroft or Cumbrian Heavy Horses in the Whicham Valley, all within 15 minutes' drive. Historic house fans have many in the area to pick from, like Muncaster Castle, Sizer Castle, Holker Hall and Levens Hall, as well as many National Trust houses such as Dove House in Grasmere, home of daffs man William Wordsworth. The towns of Windermere and Ambleside are about 20 minutes' drive away, as is South Lakes Animal Park at Dalton-in-Furness, an attractive option for animal fans. The staff at the Broughton-in-Furness tourist information centre can give you tips on what's best to see and do.
