Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked: Great family-style run facility, woth excellent staff. Good clean toilets and shower blocks, with easy access to drinking water all over site, and even a wood fire pizza oven!!! Will definitely stay again soon.

Disliked: No dislikes about the site for adults, but there was broken equipment on the children's playground.

Liked: The views here were spectacular! Staff were really friendly and helpful, and the pizza option over the weekend was fab. The shop on site is very handy and the facilities were kept nice and clean too, despite the rainy weekend making it muddy on site.

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: Fantastic site. Right in wasdale. The site is clean. Spacious. And ran by friendly people.. the staff are friendly and have a great sense of humour.. the showers are spacious. And as hot water.. there a pub at the bottom of the site which is nice to go and relax in.. the site shop as basic stuff in.. and quite reasonably priced.. your 5 miles from wasdale lake. It’s the start of a walk up scarfell.. definitely will be staying again as a solo walker.. the Wi-Fi signal didn’t bother me as I’m on holiday.. it’s the last thing I’m interested in

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked: Excellent location, 12 minute drive to Scafell Pike and pub was in walking distance, serving huge delicious portions of food and local ale. The bathroom facilities on site were very clean with lovely hot showers. Great campsite layout with a little woodland walk on site to vista point views of the hills surrounding. Nice quiet location.

Liked: Cool site, perfect spot for a quiet or busy visit to the Lakes. Lovely useful shop on site and decent pub in village.

Disliked: No wifi or signal with o2 phone. Only place to get wifi is by the shop. Not the end of the world.

Local attractions

Whether you’re climbing, canoeing or just ambling gently around with picnic in backpack, the Wasdale valley is a pretty pleasant place for a Lake District break. The valley is over 10 miles long if you fancy a full day’s historic hike, starting from the village of Wasdale Head, the start of the Three Peaks Challenge and the former home of Cumbrian pub landlord Will Ritson, whose tall tales led to the still-going-strong Biggest Liar Competition. One of the tiniest churches in the land, St Olaf’s, is at Wasdale in its ‘Viking fields’: Wasdale was originally settled by Norse farmers and the beams in the church are rumoured to be from Viking longships. Climbers can get to Scafell Pike and Great Gable from Wasdale Head, but walkers can continue along the valley length down to the village of Gosforth, which has the biggest Viking Cross in England at the Grade I-listed St Mary’s Church. Finally, fancy the beach? The Cumbrian coast at Seascale is seven miles from Church Stile Farm (walkable, you might reckon), with miles of sandy beach leading to the Lake District’s only coastal village, the fishing village of Ravenglass.
