  • Quiet, no-frills camping field with sporting facilities near Blackpool
  • A 40-minute drive to Blackpool Pleasure Beach or Ribble Steam Railway
  • Archery and rifle ranges on site; shops and takeaways 15 minutes’ walk
Combining views of the Lancashire fells with loads of sporting facilities, Little Tongues Leisure Park is a fitting base for activity-mad families. Near Poulton-le-Fylde, the no-frills camping field has a quiet, semi-rural location yet is only half an hour’s drive from the world-famous attractions of Blackpool if you all fancy a change of scenery. The campsite itself is set in a level meadow, sheltered by trees. As there is no electricity on the field, please bring torches and batteries from home for night-time trips to the spotless shower block (which also offers disabled amenities) – there’s a washing-up area just outside to keep everything neat and tidy back at your tent. There's also a salon site where guests can book in (with lovely views, of course). You can fire up your barbecue on site (bring one with you) and pick up essentials from the little shop in Preesall (15 minutes’ walk). There’s also a fish and chip shop and takeaways there, as well as a local pub (20 minutes) serving hotpots, steaks and Lancashire beers. And now for those sporting activities: both indoor and outdoor archery lessons are available, and Little Tongues has one of the longest air-rifle ranges in the north-west of England. If you’re camping in a group, you can book exclusive use of both ranges or organise archery games using foam-tipped arrows.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Friendly atmosphere. Attentive owners. Rifle shooting was brilliant. Site great value for money. Pretty views. Horses nearby. Really helpful owners, didn't put any pressure on us to pack up when leaving (was our first time pitching our own tent). Our dog gets nervous around strangers and yaps if approached but Ric was very understanding. I wish I had contacted in advance to find out activity prices to allow us to budget, as we couldn't afford to do the archery as well with 5 of us and that looked fab too. The site even sells hot drinks and snacks. Felt safe with Ric being visible around site at times.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Thank you so very much to Rick for making us feel so welcome. We were Mom and daughter camping, taking part in the shooting and archery activities. We had a brilliant time. Toilets were really spacious and clean and the pitch was great, only a few steps to them. We cooked our tea on an open fire and felt really safe all night. Archery and shooting were very well organized. We will definitely come again. Thank you so much.

Disliked: No complaints. We couldn't fault it.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Well maintained pitches. Good accessible toilet block and shower facilities. Owners were very friendly and made sure everything was perfect for everyone Pitch site is very secure and felt safe for the full 24 hours. The area is nice quiet over the night, we weren’t disturbed at all even in a tent. Very good and entertaining activities to do on site with fun for all ages. Will definitely be staying again in the future.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: I love this place it’s our second visit and we’ll be back again. Rick and Victoria can’t do enough for their customers. You see them all the time, working, cleaning, helping the campers out with problems. It’s a lovely down to earth, relaxing site. The amenities are simple but all that is needed, toilets are lovely and clean and always stocked. The ducks regularly come and visit your tent to say hello. If you want to get away from the world and just relax which is what we wanted, it’s perfect. It’s a well kept site, with archery and air rifle if you do want to do something. Thank you for a fabulous stay

Local attractions

The kids will likely love you forever if you let them loose in Blackpool (half an hour’s drive). There are daredevil thrills and spills on coasters at the Pleasure Beach, celebs to meet at Madame Tussauds Blackpool and Morecambe Bay views from the Blackpool Tower Eye. You can ride a vintage tram along the promenade or whizz down the indoor water slides at Sandcastle Waterpark Blackpool – both are ideal adventures for a rainy day. More family ideas include kangaroos, toucans and farmyard beasties to spot at Wild Discovery (half an hour), with rare breeds at Farmer Parrs Animal World (25 minutes) to enthral animal-mad youngsters. Jump on a steam-train ride on the heritage rail line at Ribble Steam Railway and Museum (40 minutes) or have a run around in bracing sea air on Marine Beach in Fleetwood (half an hour). You’re 50 minutes’ drive from yomping the fells of the southern Lake District, and if golf is your sport, there are plenty of golf courses within 40 minutes, including the hallowed championship links at Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club.
