  • Family-run site in Fossa, overlooking the MacGillycuddy Reeks
  • A 10-minute drive from Killarney and the start of the Ring of Kerry
  • Modern amenities; scenic views; day tours and taxi service available
It's all about no-fuss holidays at friendly Fossa Caravan and Camping Park in Co Kerry's spectacular district of Killarney… this family-run and long-established site is flocked to year after year by couples and families. Counting the reasons why, the first would surely be the site setting, in a viewsome wooded area overlooking the famed Macgillycuddy Reeks mountain range, home to the highest peaks on all the isle. Then there's the thoughtful layout of the park, among shrubs and mature trees with a wooded area at the rear (pics, please), then the smart look of the place overall, with first-rate amenities including modern toilet and shower blocks… Just off site, Fossa village is within a few minutes' walk, Killarney town is 10 minutes' drive east, and the lush waters of Lough Leane are a couple of kilometres to the south. Set off to tour the Kingdom of Kerry from here, either under your own steam or with a little assistance: day tours and taxi services can both be arranged if you let the friendly Fossa folk know your requirements on arrival.

Local attractions

Fossa's mightily well placed to get to many famed attractions around Kerry's countryside, waters and ancient sites. The Ring of Kerry should take most travellers to their top spots whatever their travelling tastes: this 179-kilometre route to and from Killarney passes historic sites from Muckross Abbey (20 minutes' drive away) to Staigue stone fort within an hour and a half, as well as natural highlights like the Gap of Dunloe (15 minutes) and Rossbeigh beach (35 minutes). The south of the Ring of Kerry passes Killarney National Park, the the first designated national park in Ireland way back when it was gifted to the newly formed Free State by the Muckross estate. Ross Castle and the viewpoint of Ladies View are your stopoff points here; also make time for deer spotting (the park is home to the only herd of red deer in Ireland), wandering around the Killarney Lakes, and dropping into the visitor and education centre at Muckross House. Muckross House and Gardens (20 minutes away) are much recommended by the Fossa park team, as are Tralee (35 minutes), Crag Cave (40 minutes), and Dingle and Slea Head, about an hour and 10 minutes away. The site is on the main cycle route coming from the Ring of Kerry.
