Disliked: Where do I start, 0/5 stars if this was an option. We pre booked our tent space the upcoming weeks to the June bank holiday weekend, giving tent dimensions etc. after travelling 3 hours we were greeted by a backlog of cars and campers completely lost not knowing where to set up for the weekend. Car park absolutely packed, areas for camping massively overcrowded where safety was definitely an issue, no space to even walk past tents without tripping over guide wires etc. Waited in reception for 40+ minutes looking for assistance for where our pre booked space was. Eventually resorted to a scribbled sign saying “set up anywhere be back soon, Sean” followed by a phone number. After attempting to call 8 times , along with two other groups that were there and had also pre booked, I got through to Sean who assured us there was space and someone would meet us soon, we were then greeted by a staff member who started by saying “I don’t deal with the bookings” I wasn’t impressed by this greeting but I can only imagine the unhappy customers he had to deal with throughout the day so I let it pass. He had obviously been abandoned by those in charge when they realised the complete overbooking mess earlier in the day. We walked through 3 tent areas to come to the conclusion that there was absolutely no space to even sit down on the green never mind set up a tent. Proceeded to call Sean after this to voice my opinion on the whole set up and demand a refund, for 15+ calls to be ignored. A great location but obviously not run by a competent person, I used the facilities prior to travelling 3 hours home and I would say they have not been cleaned since summer season last year. Our bank holiday plans were ruined along with so many others for the hour we spent there. I must mention that Lough Allen activity centre (A completely different business, in no way linked to the camping centre) we’re so nice and accommodating when we called them to explain that we had to cancel our pre booked activities due to this issue, they went above and beyond trying to find alternative accommodation for us , unfortunately to no avail but they gave us a full refund there and then. By my experience with the activity centre I would highly recommend. I will never pass through the gates to the camping grounds ever again!

Liked: Drumshanbo is a beautiful town and area .Pitches had easy access and facilities were reasonable. Easy walk up to the lovely village

Disliked: Arrived at the beginning of the bank holiday weekend and the place quickly became overwhelmed with csmping families including uncontrolled kids running, shouting and playing in the facilities, fortunately we moved early from the main camping area to a pitch near the gates

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Owner, very pleasant and helpful. Price about the best in Ireland for motorhomes. Early check in, late checkout always very welcome. Toilet block clean and tidy. Location by Lough Allen very pleasant.

Disliked: Did not take the short walk into town so cant comment on it. Appeared to be some constuction work going on (vehicles)' but this did not cause a problem. Nearby hotel closed at the moment.

Local attractions

Drumshanbo (10 minutes' walk) has a handy visitor centre in the village centre, a good source of detailed information about the region's history, wildlife and attractions. If you're here in July and fancy making some music, you might like to head to the seven-day Joe Mooney summer school for a week of classes and concerts, or the An Tostal Festival's programme of street entertainment earlier in the month. For more outdoor exploration, drive west for a quarter of an hour to Lough Key Forest Park. This nearby activity centre may prove particularly popular with kids, who can zip around its woods on forest segways, drive over wooden bridges in purpose-built mini Jeeps or set off on an exciting and accessible orienteering course. Also at Lough Key, dramatic McDermott Castle (15 minutes' drive, then a short boat ride) warrants a closer inspection, as do nearby historic sites like the imposing plantation-era Parke's Castle (35 minutes), thirteenth-century Sligo Abbey (45 minutes) and Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery (45 minutes).
