  • Peaceful green site close to lots of little river beaches
  • Playground with ping pong, plus tennis court with smashing hill views
  • Outdoor pool, live music and kids’ activities during high season
Ah, the lovely Lot valley. Peaceful and green, surrounded by lush vegetation, hills and spectacular scenery in the Aveyron department of southern France... and home to Camping La Plaine, lying right next to the Lot river and within easy reach of several of its swell river beaches too. Despite things being peaceful around here, there’s also plenty at this site to keep all ages entertained for aeons, plus a restaurant too to ensure that, should you so wish, you needn’t ever leave your little riverside niche. But if you do fancy getting out and exploring, the lands and waterways around are a haven for outdoorsy sorts including hikers, horse riders, cyclists, anglers, canoers and kayakers, plus sightseers can easily reach several highly handsome settlements by car such as Belcastel, Estaing, Figeac, Najac, Conques and Decazeville, as well as the Grotte de Foissac too. Dutch owners Ruud and Leida (and their dog Beau) warmly welcome guests when pitching up at their calm and verdant corner of the Midi-Pyrénées region: they’ve set the site up for quiet family stays and provided a whole heap of facilities too to keep amusement levels high, including a tennis court (with spectacular views over the surrounding hills), a heated outdoor pool open that’s throughout the season, plus a grassy playground and an outdoor ping pong table, a pétanque court and a volleyball court. Every day during July and August, the park’s friendly team keep small people amply entertained with a programme of kids’ activities, and once a week during peak season live music and entertainment is organised by the sociable site owners too.

Local attractions

A swift stroll from the site into the local village of Saint-Parthem will bring you to its handsome little houses and spectacular 16th-century church. Saint-Parthem is the last village before entering the gorges of the Lot’s narrow valley, and its steep oak- and chestnut-covered slopes. The river’s waters are primed for watery days filled with canoeing, kayaking and fishing, as well as splashing around at the beaches that line the Lot’s course, and the lands around too are smashing for hikes, bike rides and horseback hacks. Within an hour by car are pretty French villages like Belcastel, Estaing, Figeac, Najac, Conques and Decazeville, as well as the underground river that carves its way through the limestone Grotte de Foissac, on the edge of the Causses du Quercy Natural Regional Park.
